It's high time I revisit a favorite...

Full disclosure: I am a recovering Japanese food snob who still judges everything. I lived in Japan for six years, which means two things:

1. I ate very well

2. I am now insufferable about quality and authentic Japanese food

So when I tell you Rayaki is legit, please understand this compliment was hard-earned.

Let’s talk ramen...

The black garlic ramen is bold, rich, and aggressively comforting... like it wants to tuck you into bed and tell you everything will be okay. Deep umami, zero weird aftertaste, no “why does this taste like dishwater?” moments that other places sometimes fall victim to...

The miso ramen (pictured) - Cozy. Balanced. The kind of bowl that makes you pause mid-slurp and nod quietly to yourself like, “Yes. This is correct.”

They have a ton of robayaki skewers on the menu - my absolute favorite are the pork scallion skewers, which are simple in theory but dangerous in ex*****on because suddenly you’re mad there aren’t 12 of them. Perfectly cooked, juicy, sticky and seasoned exactly how they should be...no nonsense, no gimmicks, no regrets.

The Japanese curry plates are elite comfort food. Thick, fragrant, slightly sweet, deeply savory with nothing extra thrown in... the kind of curry that makes you forget whatever bad day you were having and consider ordering another plate “for later” (it will not make it home).

Also worth mentioning: their drinks are actually good, not just “legally a beverage.” Everything pairs well with the food, which tells me someone here actually cares.

Bonus points: their Glassboro location has mostly the same but some different menu items as well, which I respect immensely. Nothing screams confidence like “we didn’t just copy-paste.”

Final verdict from a former Japan resident with trust issues:

Rayaki passes my scrutiny. It’s authentic, flavorful, and doesn’t try to reinvent Japanese food for Instagram clout. If you like ramen, curry, or happiness in general, you need to go. And if you don’t like it, that’s fine, but I will silently judge you. 🍜

This review comes to you after my second visit, because one visit simply wasn’t enough for me to process the emotional attachment I’ve apparently formed to a latte.

Walking into Mi cafecito spot feels like stepping into the warmest little book-filled hideaway, except instead of dusty silence, you’re hit with the divine smell of Puerto Rican coffee and instant comfort. Soft cream walls, comfy chairs, bookshelves (yes, it also functions as a mini bookstore), warm lighting, and a vibe so relaxing it makes you want to bring your laptop, your journal, your emotional baggage, your dog (not allowed, sadly), and just move in.

The shop just opened in July in the old Brynn Bradley cheesesteak spot, and honestly? It already feels like a Woodbury staple. The staff? RIDICULOUSLY friendly. The kind where you walk in twice and they act like you're already "familia". The owner especially radiates “Puerto Rican Coffee Auntie” energy in the most comforting possible way: like she’ll hype you up, caffeinate you, and then send you home with leftovers.

So now let’s Talk About the Coffee (because WOW)

Visit #1: Toasted Marshmallow Latte

I ordered this on my first visit, for a business meeting. I was worried it might be too sweet, but no! This drink is basically a hot chocolate that grew up, went to therapy, got a 720 credit score, and bought a townhouse. Warm, lightly sweet, cozy, perfectly balanced. One sip and I immediately considered standing on a chair and making an announcement: “Everyone in this building needs to order this. Today. Now.” Maybe if I wasn't there for a business meeting I would have!

Visit #2: Coquito Latte

I blame their page for this one because the second I saw it, my brain said: "must obtain immediately". This latte tastes like a Puerto Rican Christmas wrapped in a warm hug, minus the rum (because they are, in fact, responsible business owners). It’s creamy, smooth, sweet without being dramatic about it, and had me switching from my usual Spotify playlist straight to Bad Bunny like it was a spiritual calling. My tastebuds were SHOOK.

I haven’t tried their food yet (shameful, I know), but as a generic white girl who loves Puerto Rican food like it’s a personality trait, I am READY. They’re known for fresh baked goods made in-house, breakfast bites, pastries, and other Puerto Rican–inspired items (hello, Mallorca sandwiches… I see you). Their kitchen hours are shorter than the café hours, and they do adjust them, so definitely check their social media before you show up demanding empanadas at 4 PM.

In closing, Mi Cafecito Spot is a warm, welcoming, locally-owned Puerto Rican gem tucked into Woodbury, and the fact that I can walk there from home is extremely dangerous for my caffeine budget. Whether you want a cozy morning hideout, a midday pick-me-up, or a cup of something that tastes like liquid joy, this is your place.

I came for caffeine… and left with feelings. Strong ones. Borderline committed ones.

11/10 recommend.

And yes, I’ll be back. Probably tomorrow.

If ribs had a throne, Christine's House of Kingfish Barbecue, LLC in Shamong would be the palace!

The ribs are tender masterpieces slathered in the most delicious barbecue sauce I would consider bathing in it. The chicken is juicy and full of flavor with a slightly spicier barbecue sauce, the potato salad has real soul, and the cornbread walks the perfect line between sweet and amazing. It’s not just the food that makes this the best BBQ in South Jersey, though... it’s the owners, who are hands-on, heart-forward, and treat every guest like family.

Between the smoky aroma, generous portions, and warm, welcoming vibe, this place doesn’t just serve barbecue, it IS barbecue. Come hungry, leave in a meat coma, and bring a bib. What are you waiting for??

Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ Philly is the go-to hidden spot for authentic island comfort food in Philly.

Their Spam Musubi is so on point, it's like a taste explosion in your mouth... savory, sweet, and just like Auntie used to make in Hawaii.

The Loco Moco is comfort food heaven: two scoops of rice, rich brown gravy, two thick, juicy hamburger patties, and sunny-side-up eggs that are just runny enough to make you go weak in the knees.

The Chicken Katsu and Rib plate lunch is off the chain. The katsu is golden, crispy, and tender, served with a side of dipping sauce that'll make you wanna lick your fingers. The ribs are grilled to perfection and marinated in that sweet, sweet island flavor. And don't even get me started on the classic mac salad and rice...it's like a taste of Hawaii in every bite. Everything tastes like it was made with love by your local Hawaiian lunch spot.

If you're looking for legit Hawaiian flavors, Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ Philly is it!

Brah, da grindz stay onolicious! Broke da mout' fo' real! Dis da spot, no lie!

If you haven't paired wine with tater tots, you're basically a wine newbie. Salem Oak Vineyards isn't just a winery, it's a family legacy bottled up with a twist of fun and a splash of pure genius. Let's start with the backstory: The vineyard is rooted in a family of winemaking brilliance, where every grape is treated like royalty. The family has poured heart, soul, and a healthy dose of humor into every vintage. Their love for tradition shines through, with wines named after family members... but they also know how to keep things fresh and fabulously unconventional. Enter: the tater tot wine pairing event. Now, I know what you're thinking... tater tots? With wine? But trust me, it's a match made in culinary heaven. Think crispy, golden nuggets of joy topped with stuff like pulled pork, buffalo sauce, and cheeses expertly matched with wines that elevate them to a whole new level. That loaded tot? Practically begging for a crisp, buttery Chardonnay. And for the buffalo tot, the sweet Concord is pure perfection. Salem Oak has somehow turned childhood comfort food into a five-star experience. And speaking of comfort, don't sleep on the wine slushes. On a warm day (or even a drizzle filled one like today) these frozen delights will have you rethinking your entire stance on adult beverages. Whether you're sipping a white peach concoction or a lemon-lavender masterpiece, one thing is clear. This vineyard knows how to make wine fun again. Salem Oak Vineyards isn't just a place to drink wine, it's where good vibes and conversation flow as freely as the pours. Whether you're there for the history, the tots, or the slushes, you're guaranteed to leave with a smile and maybe a few bottles for the road. Cheers to Salem Oak Vineyards for being as bold and delightful as their wine slushes! We thoroughly enjoyed talking with Julia!!

I took a gamble with food delivery and ordered from Cali Shakes Glassboro but the end result was nothing short of amazing.

The delivery looked like it was carefully handled by angels on a secret Uber Eats mission. The pretty (I don't know that I've ever described my food as pretty before) pink pitaya base, the artfully arranged fresh fruit, the carob chips and mochi bites, and the sprinkle of coconut flakes all combined to create a stunning visual masterpiece.

The pitaya was fruity and refreshing, the toppings were crunchy and fresh, and the peanut butter drizzle was the icing on the cake. I didn't even have to leave my couch to feel like I was indulging in a healthy and delicious treat.

The packaging was secure and sturdy, with no toppings casualties or fruit migrations. Cali Shakes clearly understands the importance of presentation, even when it comes to delivery.

So, if you're looking to treat yourself to something nutritious and delicious, Cali Shakes delivers, literally and figuratively.

It was time for a revised review of a favorite spot! I'm including links at the end to previous reviews.

Albertino's Italian — Where Every Bite Is a Love Story (and the Pork Chop Is the Main Character)

Let me start with a confession: I don’t like pork chops. Or rather, I never did before. That was the old me. The pre-Albertino’s me. The me who hadn’t yet been spiritually reborn via *THE* Chop. I'll get to that in a second...

Let's start with the Appetizers of the Gods...
The crostini special had ricotta, fig jam, and honey on toasted bread so good I briefly blacked out. The Jewish-style artichoke? Crispy, lemony, garlicky golden perfection. If artichokes had a bat mitzvah, this would be the afterparty. It's like the artichoke went on Birthright and came back enlightened. I would eat a bouquet of them like flowers on Valentine's Day. And the sleeper hit - the chicken soup - it's emotional support in a bowl. Golden broth, tender chicken, tiny pastina... It tastes like Nonna wrapping you in a warm hug and telling you everything will be okay. This broth can probably cure taxes.

But hold onto your forks, folks. We’re just getting started.

This pork chop is not just food... it’s a full-body experience. It’s thick. It’s juicy. It's perfectly seasoned. It's somehow both rustic and refined - tender enough to question your entire understanding of meat. I took one bite and immediately proposed marriage to it. My husband understood. He even offered to be the best man.

The Cacio e Pepe is served up straight out of a literal cheese wheel, people! This is theater. They roll a giant cheese wheel to your table and swirl the hot pasta around like they’re DJing a rave in Rome. It’s creamy, peppery perfection and will haunt your dreams in the best way.

Linguine Frutti di Mare... Poseidon himself couldn’t do better. A treasure trove of shrimp, crab meat, and calamari in a garlicky white wine-butter sauce coating al dente linguine in pure Italian magic! One bite and I swear I heard a seashell whisper, “You’re welcome.”

Dessert time and I'm glad I wore stretchy pants... I had the Lemon Gelato (served in an actual lemon, because of course it is) So adorable it deserves its own Hallmark movie. Tart, sweet, and the perfect post-meal palate therapy, scientifically proven to make you feel 43% more summery no matter what season it actually is.

And just when I thought it couldn’t get better - BAM - peanut butter cannoli. This was a crisp, flaky tube of peanut butter-laced bliss filled with a creamy, dreamy filling that made me question all my life choices up to that moment. If they sold them by the dozen, I’d need a safe house and a new identity. I would fight a bear for one.

Finally, order the espresso! Just do it. Bold, rich, smooth, no bitterness or nonsense. The Italian version of a mic drop to end your meal. You'll be caffeinated, satisfied, and spiritually fulfilled!

Sidenote: it was my husband’s birthday, and the staff also brought him an additional surprise dessert (chocolate cake) and sang Happy Birthday like it was no big deal. It WAS a big deal. It was the kind of warm, thoughtful touch that makes us love the family who owns and runs Albertino’s. They're angels. Straight-up angels in aprons. Warm, welcoming, thoughtful, funny, and effortlessly charming..

You don't feel like a customer at Albertinos, you feel like a cousin who came for dinner and overstayed your welcome. I would show up to Sunday Dinner with a suitcase and zero shame.

We’ve been coming here since they opened, and somehow it just keeps getting better. Every meal is a celebration, every visit a carb-fueled hug (with Parmesan and black pepper) It's easily our favorite Italian restaurant in the area.

If you’re not eating at Albertino’s, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life, but you’re doing it wrong!

Rehoboth Guest House: A Glorious Blend of Hospitality and Charm

If heaven decided to open a beachside B&B, it would look a lot like the Rehoboth Guest House. From the moment I stepped onto the picturesque porch, I felt like I had walked into the Instagram account of someone way cooler and more relaxed than me.

The hosts? Absolute gems. If Southern hospitality and beachy chill vibes had a love child, it would be them. They greeted me like an old friend they were genuinely excited to see (which is saying something because even my dog barely gets off the couch when I come home).

The rooms are the perfect blend of cozy and chic. The bed felt like it was stuffed with clouds and good vibes. I honestly considered trying to smuggle the pillows home but realized it would be impossible to explain to TSA. Every detail—from the fluffy towels to the thoughtful snacks—screamed, “We care about your happiness!”

The breakfast? Let’s just say I’m still thinking about those pastries. They were so good I briefly considered proposing to the chef, but alas, my social skills don’t extend to wooing genius bakers.

And the location? A stone’s throw from everything you could want in Rehoboth Beach. You’re just steps away from adorable shops, delicious restaurants, and that sweet, sweet ocean breeze.

In conclusion, if you don’t stay at Rehoboth Guest House, you’re doing vacation wrong. Ten stars out of five. Would live there if they'd let me.

I attended the "Bourbon Tasting – Exploration of Strength" at Versi Vino last night, and let me tell you, it was an experience worth every penny!

I’ve been to a few classes here over the years, and once again, Versi Vino did not disappoint. If anything, they overachieved. We weren’t just tasting bourbon; we were on a boozy pilgrimage through Kentucky (and beyond!) with a small cheese plate as our trusty sidekick.

They went all out and did not skimp at all on quality OR quantity —seven generous pours that could probably fuel a small barbecue pit, paired with cheeses so good they almost stole the show. I learned a ton about bourbon and the distilleries, which I fully intend to forget the next time someone asks me what “notes” I’m tasting. But hey, I nodded and seasoned my glass like a pro.

Pro tip: eat beforehand. I repeat, eat BEFOREHAND. Thankfully, we arrived early, or I would’ve been one bourbon shy of needing someone to carry me out. We devoured the moules frites (fancy talk for mussels and fries) and the duck poutine while waiting. Both dishes were so good, and paired with an old fashioned and a lychee spritzer I almost forgot the class hadn’t started yet.

In summary: great bourbon, amazing food, fabulous staff, and just enough tipsy fun to make me declare myself an honorary bourbon sommelier.

Versi Vino strikes again!
