Just got meat back from the butcher and it is BEAUTIFUL! Shanks, leg roasts, chops, and lots of CHORIZO sausage! I’ll be selling this lovely mutton aka sheep aka lamb meat that’s older than a year of age but tastes the same at the Schoharie Valley Farmers Market this Sunday 10-1! Please DM if you’d like to preorder something!

Look at this grass! If the sheep had continuous access to this field, the plants would never have time to recover. Their roots would shrink and shrivel and then the soil would become starved of oxygen and get compacted. That would hurt the microbiome that lives in the soil! We don’t want that- we want EVERYTHING to thrive! Microorganisms, plants, insects, animals, and u s! With intensive rotational grazing management, WE ALL THRIVE 🌍🌳🌱 🐑

Really enjoying this new market- see you Sunday!

New day, new paddock! Sheep are never quieter than when they gain access to a pasture. I have moved off their manure which carries parasites and draws in flies. I have prevented them from over grazing so the plants can recover quickly and their roots are not jeopardized. And I got a workout in

We did it again. Chicken killing queens processed 100 chickens in a single day. My mom and Joe kept children alive and cooked food. Bee, Betsy, Mairi, Karla and I worked until every last bird was tucked into the cooler. It’s a lovely feeling to raise food for your community, but to do the hard work with friends and family? That is a wonderful. This is our fifth year raising chickens on pasture. Woohoo we did it! Now come get your delicious chicken and THANK YOU ALL!

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Kate! See me taking selfies with my guardian geese The Juice and Juliette. I am the owner and operator of The Flockery, a tiny pasture based livestock farm in Cherry Valley NY. I believe if you are going to take an animal’s life for sustenance, it deserves to have a good life. So, I spend my days raising 2 wonderful kids, rotating my sheep flock to fresh pastures, feeding pigs that live in our woods, collecting eggs from our hens, moving our broilers to new grass, refreshing the geese’s’ water tub, cooking from scratch, and occasionally cleaning my house. I also participate in a weekly potluck with my neighbors and friends. My husband 💖is an essential partner in the farm and my life. I am trained as a veterinary technician. I have too many house cats 🐈 and I adore stand up comedy. I can’t imagine my life without my kids, my sister, my female friendships, and working with animals. I wish one of the millionaires or billionaires in this country would give me $80,000 so I could scale up enough to make some actual money. Until then, I’ll keep doing my best. Thanks for following!

Heaven. I am in heaven. Did you know that when you scratch a pigs belly they lie down? Without fail. Poppy loves being scratched and I love being the woods giving her scratches.

Chicken killing Queens. Processing princesses. We go by many names. Another successful processing day here on the farm thanks to these amazing women. The work was hard, dirty, slimy, but that’s ok. We handled it and worked tirelessly until every bird was in the cooler. Thank you ladies. Now we can fill our freezers and feed our community with high quality, ethically raised chicken. I couldn’t do this without you 🥰
