God of seedtime and harvest,
Have mercy on us and hear our prayer:
For children who go to bed hungry at night,
and for parents who cannot find food for them.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For communities hungry because of flood, fire, or drought,
and for governments who struggle to provide for them,

Lord, hear our prayer.

For farmers sowing seed and raising livestock to feed the world,
and for their care for the land that provides their livelihood,

Lord, hear our prayer.

For subsistence farmers vulnerable to climate changes,
and for market gardeners vulnerable to price variations,

Lord, hear our prayer.

For those who are committed to organic farming practices,

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the wellbeing and ethical treatment of livestock,
and for those who raise, transport, and slaughter animals for food,

Lord, hear our prayer.

For soup kitchens, food banks, and aid agencies,
and for the donors, volunteers, and staff who help feed the hungry,

Lord, hear our prayer.

For remote communities where fresh food is expensive and in
short supply,

Lord, hear our prayer.

For policymakers and planners in land use and food production,
and for community educators in diet and nutrition,

Lord, hear our prayer.

Gather us in to your heavenly feast where all who hunger and thirst for justice will be satisfied.

Spring is an active time for farmers and members of our state’s agricultural industry. Did you know that in North Carolina it is legal for farm equipment to travel on most public roads? For the safety of everyone on the road, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol has a few recommendations for motorists and equipment operators for today's .

πŸ„ πŸ’¨ = πŸ” πŸ˜‹

We admit, it can be fun to sing about cow farts -- we've all been kids, and we like to have fun, but we also like to have that fun with facts.

So, let's talk methane! There's no denying cattle emit methane, but 97-98% of the methane that comes from cattle is emitted from their mouths (cow burps). And we know this because emissions and climate change aren't a new fad for cattle raisers, we've been studying and reducing for decades!

A reduction in methane comes from an understanding of methane vs carbon dioxide - which are often confused and lumped together when talking about emissions and greenhouse gasses. But methane is short-lived compared to CO2, only remaining in the atmosphere for about 10 years before breaking down and being recycled back into the plants cows eat and convert. Whereas CO2 is a stock gas which builds exponentially and remains for 1,000 years! Methane is part of the byogenic carbon cycle and actually balances and can generate cooling effects. Yep, cows are part of the solution to climate change, not the detractors!

And while lemongrass sounds like a cool flavor, again, we've been studying feed additives such as seaweed and other natural sources that reduce methane in cow burps for a few years, so we're always glad to talk about one more! On some farms, they've seen a reduction of up to 25% in methane by combining new manure management with feed additives and studying emissions.

We love a good tune. We like to have some fun. But we really ❀️ a good πŸ” knowing cattle can actually reduce emissions and are part of the solution to climate change, offsetting CO2 in the atmosphere -- without the guilt or misinformation. So, if you're concerned about climate change, throw a burger or two on the grill tonight and enjoy!
