Werner Brombach, the longtime owner of the world-famous Erdinger Brewery, passed away this weekend. I spent an evening of beer drinking with him in London in 2012 during the Olympics. He was an extraordinarily kind and a very funny gentleman. We will miss him. This weekend we will be brewing a beer in his honor, simply called “Brombach.”

Heading back to the WNIS studio today to boadcast a new radio program with Big Ugly founder Jim Lantry, called Jim’s Cellar, where we open up and taste beers Jim has had lying around for several years - some for decades, some with abvs in the double digits - and give our unvarnished reactions.

Should be quite entertaining.😜

Our official medal bearer, Steffi, is sporting some new hardware today that just arrived. It's our bronze and gold medals from the National Homebrew Competition 1st Round in Philadelphia for our Ice Queen Eisbock and our Vaccinator Maibock (Heller Bock). All that metal must be starting to get heavy!

Not a good brew day. Fell off the stepstool during wort transfer and lost 5 gallons of wort, so only five were spared. Moving on. Whacked my head on the concrete floor to boot. Ouch. Will need to rebrew that other 5 gallons for Orktoberfest.

Woo-hoo! The results of the 1st Round of the National Homebrew Competition in Philadelphia are in and two of our beers are headed to the finals! Our Vaccinator Maibock won gold and our Ice Queen Eisbock took bronze, despite a lowered score resulting from a leaky bottle. Both of these beers were featured during our Founders Day event last Saturday---proof that we only serve our friends and neighbors the very best (and for free!).
