Pick-your-own, retail and wholesale, family-owned orchard open Late July.-Nov. (At that time the orchard was surrounded by farms and forest.)

Drazen Orchards traces its history to the early 1800's, when it began as a farm, orchard and wood mill. David Drazen, who specialized in wholesale fruit and produce purchased the orchard in 1951 and much to the chagrin of family and friends moved with his wife Ida from the metropolis of New Haven to the hinterlands of Cheshire. The orchard had well-known New England apple varieties such as Macinto

sh, Macoun, Baldwin, Rome and Northern Spy. Trees were large and tall, as was customary, and harvesting required tall ladders and skilled pickers. Out of care and concern for his many neighbors who live in homes now surrounding the Orchard, son Gordon became an early adopter of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) which helps to grow our fruit with the most natural means possible. Over the past 25 years Gordon replanted the entire orchard in a compact style utilizing a trellis support system which allows for maximum sunshine , optimal flavor, and quality. Now operating the orchard are Gordon's son and daughter- Eli and Lisa ,who make their homes on the family farm along with Won Hee, Kevin and Farm Dog Macoun. In addition to peaches, plums and pears, we grow many apple varieties including Cortland, Macoun, Honeycrisp, Gala, Jonagold and Zestar. Our farm stand features our own fruit as well as products from local farms and of course pick-your-own. We hope you love our apples, peaches, pears, plums, and bluberries
as much as we love growing them for you.

Our always popular McIntosh apples are now available for pyo and freshly picked on the Farmstand.

Here are some facts about this classic New England apple...

Did you know that the MacIntosh line of personal computers is named after the McIntosh apple?

According to Wikipedia.com "John McIntosh discovered the original McIntosh sapling on his Dundela farm in Upper Canada in 1811. He and his wife bred it, and the family started grafting the tree and selling the fruit in 1835. In 1870, it entered commercial production, and became common in northeastern North America after 1900...According to the US Apple Association website it is one of the fifteen most popular apple cultivars in the US."

LOOK TO THE SKIES TONIGHT FOR THE FULL HARVEST MOON! According to Almanc.com, our expert go to on all things lunar, "The Harvest Moon is said to be the full Moon which occurs nearest to the date of the autumnal equinox (September 22, 2022). This means that either September or October’s full Moon may take on the name “Harvest Moon” instead of its traditional name."

About Town tomorrow is the Cheshire Fall Festival . Our Farmer’s caps are off to the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Town of Cheshire for undertaking this annual event. You might stop by to have fun on the midway, support our local businesses, crafters, farms, orchards, and local non-profits. A spectacular fireworks show will cap off the evening.
