Self- Care Horse Boarding
EST JAN 2004

On Dec 1, 2024, after 21 Years, we have retired from our Birthday Parties, Pony Rides, Horsemanship Clinics & Farm Visits. Iron Gait Horse Farm, established in 2004, is located on 16 Acres in the Heart of Chester, Virginia. We offer horse boarding, On-Site Birthday Parties, Pony Rides, Family Farm Visits and Girl Scout clinics. This type of boarding allows

you, the owner, to care for and feed your own horse. In doing this, you have the opportunity to bond with your horse and gain that trust that is so greatly needed to form that special relationship! Our barn is an 8-stall barn with a wide-concrete aisle, individual tack rooms and room for hay storage. We also have a lighted-riding ring and access to trails.

Happy National Dog Day to all the amazing pups who have brought so much joy to my life over the years! 🐾❤️ Every single one holds a special place in my heart:
1980s–1990s: Kelsey & Winston (Springer Spaniels) 🐶
Late 1990s: Emma (Siberian Husky) 🐺
2000s: Olive (Beagle) & Luc (Great Pyrenees) 🐾
Over the Years: Sir Jaegar (Bernese Mountain Dog) & Leyna (Rottie/Shepherd mix) 🤎
Today: Eli (Bernese Mountain Dog) & Suley (Anatolian Shepherd) carrying on the torch! 🐾✨
Every one of these dogs has filled my life with memories I’ll cherish forever. I’ve been so blessed over the years! 🙏🏻❤️

🐴 Do you know a senior horse? You can help support equine research!

A veterinary student at Long Island University is conducting a master’s research project focused on cognitive aging in horses, and they are looking for horse owners, veterinarians, trainers, barn managers, and caregivers to participate.

The research team is developing the Equine Cognitive Aging Questionnaire (ECAq) to better understand how aging may affect behavior, memory, attention, learning, social interaction, and daily function in horses. The study will also explore possible associations with conditions such as PPID.

They especially need information about horses 15 years of age and older, whether they are showing noticeable age-related changes or seem to be aging normally.

🐴 Who can participate?
Anyone familiar with the day-to-day behavior of a horse, particularly a horse age 15+.

⏱️ What’s involved?
A 15–25 minute anonymous online survey about your horse’s behavior over the past three months, general health, and management.

Every response helps researchers learn more about brain health and aging in horses and could contribute to better care for our senior equine companions in the future.

Big news from the farm today—Suley had his 16-month checkup with Dr. Froelich! 🐾

We won't mention any names, but someone was a much better patient than his big brother Eli today... 🤐🤣

Our guy weighed in at 92 pounds. He’s currently still in that hilarious "long and lanky" teenage stage, but over the next year, he’ll start filling out with dense muscle and bone. Anatolians are a slow-maturing breed, so we're patiently waiting for that full adult brain to settle in around age three! 🤪

In the meantime, he’s doing an absolute phenomenal job keeping the farm and all his furry/feathered siblings safe. Good boy, Suley! 💙🐴🐈‍⬛🐓🦃

PS. Swipe through for pics and the last one is a flashback to his 4 month check up :-)
