10 days into lambing. We have 28 lambs now, 9 ewes left who have not given birth yet.

Posting a little late as the lambing started a little early! I had just returned on Monday (23 March) from a visit south, assuming I'd arrive back in time for lambing to start around 1 April.

Tuesday we delivered 3 lambs out of 2 ewes.
Wednesday we delivered 6 lambs out of 3 ewes
Thursday we awoke to a set of triplets, then later another set of 2
So, far, so good.

The boys get a lot of attention, but our girls are special too! Betsy (mother to Freel and Annie) and Annie, who just turned 8 months. She's growing out her flaxen mane and tail.

Join the boys, Clark & Freel at Meatball Day 2025 at Erskine's Grain & Garden. (Saturday, December 13th) Wagon rides will take donations that will go to the Chester Andover Food Shelf. Please join us for a great day if food and fun!

Rides start at 11:00 am. Dress warm!

We've been giving wagon rides at Christmas in Weston at The Vermont Country Store for over 10 years, starting out with our Suffolk mares, Sarah and Betsy to yesterday with Freel and Clark. We were also joined by Jay Fisher and his Harry and Prince. 4 Suffolks carrying on the Christmas tradition!

We still have lots of blueberries to pick! U-pick, now at $3/pound! Fill your freezer with berries or pie!

We're at the top end of Cemetery Road off Smokeshire in Chester.

Blueberries are coming in! U-pick open! $4/lb-pint
10 am- 6 pm.
All the way to the top of Cemetery Rd off Smokeshire.

Watch out for haying equipment and dogs in the driveway and horses in the field.

Electric fence is not on, and just duck under the bird netting over the blueberries.

It's an adventure!

Our foal Annie just turned 1 month old. We were a bit nervous as she came down with pneumonia. She put up with two weeks of injections, twice a day, but seems to be great. She didn't appear sick at all. We let her and her mom out in the pasture today (after many days of rain, and a dry out period).

As we've been super busy with Spring Births (lots of lambs, . . . don't even know how many, but 3 sets of triplets) and our surprise filly, Annie. I wanted to give a little update on Annie.

According to the vet, Annie was a little early (and we didn't even know she was coming, we checked 11 months ago and it was a "no"). Betsy is a big girl, but, she was getting wider. We started keeping an eye on her utter to see if it was filling with milk. It wasn't. So, surprise with Annie!
We've been keeping our eye on her to make sure all is right. One of her rear legs was a little off . . . it seems to be straightening out, and she's getting around fine. Betsy is a great mom. THis is her 5th foal, 4th, here on Smokeshire Hilltop Farm out of our Clark.
Because her first day was filled with many people rubbing her (it was cold) and holding her, she is very friendly when she gets visitors. Betsy always stands right there as she's the best mom.
