A Wise Choice Farm

A Wise Choice Farm We sold our dairy cows in 2015. Sold most of our land to a beef grazier in 2016. We hope to have our own small herd of beef in the future.

To our fans + followers: Recently we've received a couple of suggestions to add our website, address, and phone number to our farm FB page. We appreciate the input, and thanks for caring! Since we have sold our dairy cows and most of our land, we are not promoting our farm as a public or retail establishment at this time. We no longer have a website, and prefer not to publicize our address and phone on FB. If that changes, we'll let you know. If you would like to visit, please send a private message. Thanks!

Happy to report that Sprocket now has a permanent home at Whetstone Farm (find them on FB and Instagram). Wonderful family, great farm, lots of love all around. I hate to dredge up a trite, corporate clichΓ©, but it truly is a win-win-win. πŸ’•πŸŽ‰πŸŽ

It was another bittersweet transition day: We took Sprocket to what we hope will be his new permanent home at a diversified farm in Western Wisconsin. Make no mistake: We adore Sprocket. He enriched our lives and made our work so. much. easier. Truly a million-dollar dog. But we don't have any work for him to do. And he *needs* to work. He was born + bred for herding. He deserves to have the opportunity to feel that joy again. We were blessed when he was brought to us; now we are paying it forward by sending him to a young farm family who needs help herding their sheep. We are excited for them and hopeful that it will be a good match. Stay tuned.

Meet Sprocket! If all goes according to plan, he'll be part of our family next week. He *can't wait* to work with the cows!

Today was a great day for our family and our farm. We finally closed on the sale of 122 acres of our land. This has been in the works for four months, and I didn't dare post anything about it to Facebook for fear of jinxing it (remember the bison fiasco?)

Now that it's official, I'm happy to share the good news. It's a win all around, as we sold to a beef grazier who will continue to use the fence and watering system that John spent so many long hours building and fixing. And we will have cattle on the land once again, contributing to its fertility. John even gets to continue working with the cattle, as he's offered to rotate them for the new owner so John can get his bovine fix.

We still have 34 acres, MOL, that will make a fine habitat for a few head of our own beef cattle down the road. It's the end of one chapter, but the beginning of another. πŸŽ‰

Woo hoo! We completed two more spays this week thanks to the generosity of our supporters. We had expected to finish our funded alterations in September, but there were other cat colonies that needed help + traps. We finally got two traps back last week. Fang + Winnie were first, and we expect to complete two more this week. That will bring our total alterations to eight cats. Between alterations + adoptions (thank you!) -- plus a few deaths and some cats wandering away -- we are now down to 15 felines that we know of. As a result, we're now more than halfway to our new financial goal. The colony appears healthier, is easier to care for, and seems more inclined to stay close to home. Thanks again to all who have helped us get to this point. If you would like to support our efforts, please consider making a donation on our YouCaring page, or donating directly to farmferalstray.org, and specifying "A Wise Choice Farm Cat Colony."

We need your help to continue caring for the cat colony on our farm. Between adults and kittens, we estimate we have about 24 cats. We need to prevent future growth so we can keep providing them with food and housing, and avoid potential problems with sanitation and disease. Thanks to Farm, Feral,...
