Giant Horned Rabbit Fossil Found in Wyoming May Explain Jackalope Legend
A nearly complete fossilized skeleton of an unusually large rabbit like animal has been uncovered in central Wyoming, including what researchers believe are two horn like structures permanently attached to the skull.
The specimen is estimated to be thousands of years old and considerably larger than any modern Wyoming jackrabbit.
Researchers have not yet classified the animal, but the discovery has already revived one obvious question:
Was the jackalope legend based on something that actually existed?
