These forever chemicals are so potent that compost made from the manure of ruminants that eat hay from sprayed fields can poison the soil to such an extent that you can no longer can grow vegetables for at least seven years. The toxic reach of these herbicides have more reach than six degrees of Kevin Bacon. There is a better way.

It must be frustrating and demoralizing to be on the Cheyenne City Planning Commission (CPC) when the council continues to override your recommendations. The CPC is a voluntary position appointed by the mayor. Imagine if you volunteered your time to take your civic duty seriously with no compensation only to be told by the council that you're not competent enough to have a credible recommendation. Imagine serving years in the nitty gritty of the CPC and then having your competence denigrated by a dentist.

Wow! We get it. It's hard to keep showing up with data, linear reasoning, and good intentions to no avail.

We’re going to try and make one last attempt to promote Urban Ag for the betterment of Cheyenne. We’re going to take a planning commissioner’s advice and be even more involved, and we’re asking you to show up Monday and be part of something great!

The proposed, first edition of the Urban Ag Ordinances as written will certainly close WY fresh down AND make it difficult for any farm stands AND make access to local food difficult. We have found writing city code can be difficult, heck even the city planning department has trouble writing ordinances that make sense and that will actually benefit Cheyenne. Surely there’s gifted folks in Cheyenne that can make something truly remarkable for Cheyenne.
We’ll see you wonderful, competent folks of Cheyenne tomorrow at 6!

When: Monday, Oct. 5th at 6pm
Where: Cheyenne Municipal Building, 2101 O’Neill Ave
CPC Meeting Agenda linked in comments.

The Urban Ag changes to zoning was supposed to go before the planning commission tonight, but was cancelled because there wasn't a quorum. Please note this was supposed to be heard Sept 8th.

Why this matters:
The next Planning Commission Meeting won't be until Oct 5th. We don't know yet if the Ag changes will even be on the agenda then, but if we're optimistic enough to believe it will be puts the Urban Ag zoning final adoption on Nov. 9th. This is only if it doesn't get rescheduled or cancelled again. There is a real possibility we could be annexed before the urban ag ordinances are adopted.

We did get a chance to talk to one of the Planning Commissioners. He suggested we should be more actively involved in the process and proposed that we bring forth specific language for desired changes to continue operation.

How can you help:
If you pray, please pray for us. We're not sure how to be more actively involved, nor do we specialize in city planning or even policy writing. We're tired. We need stamina and seek peace. Our children need it too.

This is another example of why it's so exhausting trying to save our farm and farmstand. The Urban Ag amendments were supposed to go before the planning commission today. Soon after the meeting started we discovered that it was rescheduled for Sept 21st without public comment again. We don't know when it was rescheduled, but it is still on the city's website ( https://connect.cheyennecity.org/urbanagriculture ).

PSA: The government spraying the side of our farm for noxious weeds.

Please don’t spray herbicides next to an organic vegetable farm.

#😭😭😭

Update: Laramie County W**d & Pest said that state law requires herbicides to be sprayed along county roadways, unless YOU SPECIFICALLY REQUEST NO POISON/SPRAY signs. Problem is Walterscheid Blvd is NOT a county roadway. Can anything be done?

In response to the proposed urban agriculture code changes (part 2 of 4):

Well, it's a start.

Farming and ranching by nature requires optimism and perseverance in optimism. We plant in the spring because we hope for moisture and favorable weather. We do this even after a disastrous year of drought or hail. We look for the good and try to propagate more of it. We don't take the advice to "Keep on the Sunny Side" lightly.

The Planning Department of the City of Cheyenne has proposed amendments to the development code to deal with Urban Agriculture. This is what we like about the proposed changes:

1. Electrical fences will be allowed.
2. Gravel parking will be permitted in appropriate cases.
3. Some site plan requirements will be removed.
4. An attempt is being made to allow for Urban Agriculture in Cheyenne.

In response to the proposed urban agriculture code changes (part 1 of 4):

We politely request a more transparent dissemination of information.

1. Table 5.1.4 is pointless, because no key is provided to decipher the acronyms. Please provide one and make it available to the public for comment.

2. The slides presented by Mr. Bloom, the Planning and Development Director of Cheyenne, were not the same as the printed material provided at the work session or available online. Please make it available so the public can comment.

3. Even though it’s not written, Mr. Bloom expressed the intent of the city for Agriculture Product Sales / Farmers Market was to limit the buildings to temporary buildings only. The buildings would not allow public occupation, need to be open less than six months of the year, and hand-washing sinks may be problematic. This obviously has significant negative impacts to the WYfresh farmstand. Please include your intent and open it up for public comment.

4. Referencing #3 above, how is the time frame calculated? Consecutive days? Please include and open it up for public comment.

5. The agenda and video of the August 21, 2026 Special Meeting are missing from the city of Cheyenne’s website. Please include them for transparency.

6.. Please note that the other family whose home is being annexed, was not informed of the proposed changes in code that will affect their home and possible livelihood. Please inform those affected by code changes for transparency.

Please note: The above was submitted on the city’s website ( https://connect.cheyennecity.org/urbanagriculture ) and cross posted here just in case it gets lost 😉.
