BIG NEWS!!!! As Mariame Kaba said, “Everything worthwhile is done with other people.” So instead of pursuing a single-use brick and mortar space, we are planning to purchase and build out a MULTIFUNCTIONAL, MULTICULTURAL, COLLECTIVE LIBERATION BUILDING with our partner organizations!!!
We have been able to do a LOT of work with your individual donations, and the city is supplementing those resources with up to $150k to help us acquire land that we will design with our partners. We envision it will contain:
1) The Justice Cream kitchen and shop
2) A museum and library that will honor the social movements of our communities
3) Greenspace / First Nations Gardens
4) A solidarity economy liberatory education school
5) A community health clinic
6) An incubator for solidarity economy businesses owned by our BIPOC communities
7) Housing
8) A market/galleria of BIPOC owned coops
9) Event space for people assemblies, workshops, joymaking gatherings
10) AND SO MUCH MORE!!!
We will be working closely with our Chicago-based partners to ensure that we honor Land Back and Black liberation principles and that we are accountable to our communities. This “liberation lab” will be a site of experimentation and prototyping of a new world that is rooted in equity, care, joy, and critical consciousness.
We hope to be shovel-ready in one year, but we will need your patience and support to make this happen!! The city grant is reimbursement-based, so we hope to fundraise about $150k to receive the full $150k grant. Will you help us get there? The project itself will be a multimillion dollar haul beyond this grant, so we need as much support and wealth redistribution as possible!!!
Thank you for your support and faith in us!! This journey has been stressful but magical, and we’re so excited and grateful to be able to dream and build with yall!
