๐ฅ It's week 17 of the CSA & we're excited to have two types of radishes on the menu today: Watermelon Radishes & Breakfast Radishes. No hot peppers necessary, these radishes will add so much spice to your life! If that's not hot enough, we definitely still included a delicious mix of hot peppers. ๐ถ
Whether you're keeping the summer vibes alive and still cooking out on the grill or hunkering down inside making soups to combat these chilly evenings, this week's goodies are sure to please, enjoy! ๐ค

This weeks farm fresh menu is gonna add a ton of spice to raw or cooked dishes! These heirloom watermelon radishes are INTENSELY spicey. ๐ฅ We recommend pickling them or taking a cheese shredder to them and garnishing any dish to add a kick. Yum! ๐

As the season winds down we're working harder than ever to clear beds to seed new crops to be harvested before it's time to put the farm to sleep and say goodnight 'til next year. Inspired by funfetti! Don't be fooled--only looks like the traditional funfetti cake, but is actually more well-rounded in flavor. Instead of sprinkles, I used different edible things to color the inside and outside of this cake. Blueberry raisins, dehydrated strawberries, pistachios, and bee pollen are baked into the vanilla cake to give it character, and it's covered in lemon labneh and a variety of flowers from +
Week 1 of our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) out of 25 weeks has arrived! Aside from the pandemic we hit a few obstacles beginning of the season but with a little farmer faith, a good amount of rain and lotsa sunny weather we caught up and were ready to begin just in time. Phew!

Iโm so excited to announce this mutual-aid meals project by and to deliver weekly hot meals to families in Little Village, Englewood, and other Southside communities in Chicago. These neighborhoods have been hit hard by COVID-19 with large numbers of Black and Latinx folks losing their lives because they canโt afford to shelter in place. These are also neighborhoods where many โessentialโ underpaid workers live. We think nourishing hot food is medicine, and while it may not solve all our systemic problems, weโll at least get to feed some families๐๐พ Meals will be lovingly prepared by of and of ! Well folks we did it! ๐ค We expanded our CSA this year and reached our goal to offer more families in Chicago locally grown organic goodness. Among all of the hurdles of this year and being a small business going into our third year, we know the obstacles to make it through are still very much present but we'll take this small victory. Although distanced from each other now we know we're not alone and want to say thank you to all of the amazing folks who've signed up as well as to all who've sent messages of support that are keeping our spirits up. We are a worker-owned agricultural business that provides sustainably grown produce located on Windy City Harvestโs Legends Farm in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago. We are currently comprised of five worker-owners all trained through the Chicago Botanical Gardens urban agriculture program.
We came together after our training around a love for sharing local produce, particularly unique crops and those with a deep, often lost, history. We all believe in growing food using natural processes and without pesticides. Nature knows best and we do our best to listen.
We are committed to the spirit of worker-ownership and the equitable distribution of power among workers. We all work together to come to decisions. Everyone who plucks your produce is also an owner. No bosses! This model flies in the face of industrial and large farm practices which offer very low wages for workers and provide no decision-making power or ability to gain ownership in the business. Just as our mission says, "we believe food tastes better when it is grown under equitable conditions by valued and invested workers." Give us a chance to show you!
