🎸Tom Petty (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) once said, “Music is probably the only real magic I have encountered in my life.” If you agree, then you need to attend St. John Brebeuf School’s Oktoberfest this Friday and Saturday, September 9th & 10th because we have some amazing bands for you to enjoy.
🪗On Friday, our Oktoberfest will commence with traditional German music from Ed Wagner's Brass Band at 6:00pm. Following them at 8:30pm will be The Mary Jane Breakdown, a Tom Petty tribute band.
🥁On Saturday Joe Di Zillo - Singer/Songwriter and the Hi-Hats will start us off at 1:00pm. At 3:30pm, enjoy one of Chicago’s up and coming reggae bands, The Mighty Rebelz. Wall of Denial, Chicago’s premier Stevie Ray Vaughan cover band, returns to our Oktoberfest at 6:00pm. Then at 8:30, we are thrilled to present SunFallen, a country band that has played at the Country Thunder Music Festivals.
🍻While you’re listening to these phenomenal bands, we’ll have plenty of delicious authentic German food from Paulina Meat Market and lots of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
🦄Our “Family Afternoon” is on Saturday from 2:00pm - 5:00pm. Pony rides and a petting zoo will be available for children to enjoy - we may even have a few unicorns as well. In addition, there will be bouncy houses and face painting opportunities. A train ride will also be offered along the southern portion of our campus along with a “Touch a Truck” exhibit.
🏹SJB Warriors Alumni, you’ll definitely want to order one of our “throwback” SJB Warriors t-shirts! This weekend will also be a great opportunity for you to reunite with your former classmates.
💸If you’re feeling lucky, you just might win our 50/50 Raffle and/or score that winning Pull-Tab or FootballMania card.

We so enjoyed our Prinskorv (Prince's sausage) and the Potatiskorv (Potato Sausage/Fläskorv) this year at Christmas. Absolutely perfect! Thank you for helping us to continue some of our traditions. ❤

Last week we were honored to host our 39th Annual Lucia Luncheon at The Drake Hotel. It was a day filled with traditional Swedish Christmas food and a beautiful Lucia procession performed by the Nordic Voices of Chicago. We ended the luncheon with an exciting raffle drawing with fantastic prizes.
Many thanks to all our sponsors for making this Lucia Luncheon possible!
Thank you for celebrating this special Lucia tradition with us. We hope to see you at next year’s 40th Annual Lucia Luncheon on December 9.

A change of meeting plans today led me to the Paulina Meat Market in Chicago's Lakeview community. An old German butcher shop turned high end grocery, it remains manned by the butchers behind the counter who call out numbers that customers pull from the plastic pig snout by the front door. I was number 55 and they were on 46. So I walked around, picked up a few items off the shelves (yes, jars of red cabbage), had a conversation with a random person, handed out a business card because people are never really random, and then saw someone whom I recognized immediately, despite her being masked up to her eyes and me not having seen her since my sophomore year at Mather High School: my English teacher Ms. Louise Taylor! She had a great impact on my younger self and I loved her! And, what was even more exhilarating, she remembered me by name, knew about my real estate career, and laughed while taking this selfie with me. Then she paid for her steaks and walked out of my life for the second time. Oh Ms. Taylor, until we meet again! And, oh I love you Chicago! Big city, small world.
It’s official! We are so proud that you can now find Pop Karma at the one-of-a-kind, historic, iconic Paulina Meat Market, a Lakeview gem. 💗
