Panelist: Jim Bruels
Associate Director of Rental Events | SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)
Jim Bruels is currently the Associate Director of Rental Events at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. SFMOMA is one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the United States, managing seven venues within the iconic building. The Rental Events team consists of four people and 30 on-call event specialists.
Previous to SFMOMA, he was the Director of Bentley Reserve, a luxury historic venue in the center of the Financial District. Over the course of 6 years, he was able to grow the team from 2 people to 5 full time event staff, double the sales figures for the venue, and in 2019 opened a distillery in Nevada, heading up the hospitality and tasting room program.
Jim started his career in the travel industry as a Corporate Travel Agent, quickly moving up to the Director of Vendor Relations for Uniglobe Northern California. He opened San Francisco’s first LEED certified hotel in 2006 and was a Director of Sales at several Union Square boutique hotels. His background spans 20 years in the hospitality industry in San Francisco.

“I served as a Weather Technician in the Minnesota Air National Guard from 2000–2006. I joined Levy in 2007, where I took a different direction in my career as the Director of HR at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs! Although the jobs are very different, they have some parallels – they’re fast-paced, challenging, rewarding and value inclusivity.
“The Air Force lives and breathes by three core values: integrity, service before self and excellence in all we do. In my current role as a Regional Director of Talent Acquisition, I look for these three things in every candidate as we strive to keep and find the best people.
