I messaged my friend, @mmiskewitch and asked him about Kovbasa, a traditional Ukrainian sausage. His family is from Ukraine and, as you can imagine, he’s going through a lot right now. He and his family are wonderful people. His daughter is one of my daughter’s best friends. The sausage is simple- pork, garlic, salt & pepper, and just for fun, we made some ‘peperivka’ - chili infused vodka- an occasional but traditional addition to the sausage, and smoked them.
The sausages will be for sale in the case starting tomorrow and a portion of sales will go to our friend @chefjoseandres and his amazing World Central Kitchen] who are working hard to keep Ukrainians fed. I know that our little effort won’t move the needle, but that’s not why we did it. We just wanted to make something to connect folks like my friend and his family to their Ukrainian heritage and provide a little bit of comfort the way only food can.

ANOTHER NEW SANDWICH!
It’s getting close to springtime… kinda. We thought we’d lighten things up, a bit with a #tunasalad sandwich. That’s right- no meat, but a lot of delicious. The tuna salad is based on #juliachild’s famous recipe that includes capers, cornichons, chives and lemon, plus slow roasted tomatoes, @nietoperek’s green bean pickles, olives and butter lettuce on @publicanqualitybread seeded rye. It’s definitely a tuna sandwich fit for a butcher shop!
