I am so excited to host Life’s Sweet Cookie Decorating Class at BrentArt! Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for a fun Saturday afternoon activity, this is the perfect place to let your creativity crumble—in the best way possible.

Join me as we dive into the world of royal icing, sprinkles, and sugar! You’ll learn the tips and tricks to decorating beautiful butterfly 🦋and 🌷tulip cookies that look just as good as they taste. Hi everyone! I’ve noticed some new faces here, so I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself—the face behind Life’s Sweet Inc.

I’m Chef Melissa, a 36-year-old Puerto Rican from the Hermosa neighborhood of Chicago. I now live in Edgebrook and proudly serve the greater Chicagoland area. I’ve been a professional chef for 16 years, and my passion for food has been a lifelong journey.

I’m the youngest of three and a proud mom to the sweetest boy, Steven. I graduated from Lane Tech High School as Student Council President and an active community leader, and later attended Robert Morris University on a lacrosse and community leadership scholarship.

I’ve known from an early age that I belonged in the food industry, and I’ve been working in it since 2009. Over the years, I’ve gained experience at places like Dunkin, local cafés, and Restaurant Depot. I also previously owned and operated a brick-and-mortar restaurant and bakery in Rogers Park. After many rewarding years, I made the decision to pivot and downsize so I could focus more on my family.

Food is my heart, but music, art, and singing were my first loves. In addition to being a chef, I also sing, act, teach classes, and work as an optometry technician during the week. When I’m not working, you can find me spending time with my partner and my spunky kid, exploring new places, or traveling.

Community is at the core of everything I do. While I don’t always highlight my contributions, it’s important to me to share that giving back is a big part of who I am.
