Thrilled to be mentioned by the New York Times in its guide to Chicago's South Side:

"A few blocks south of the downtown strip, the year-old Mahari restaurant offers a menu inspired by the African diaspora, drawing on Caribbean, Creole and other traditions in dishes such as spicy lamb burgers with Haitian pikliz slaw."

Visit Mahari for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch at 1504 E. 55th Street in the Hyde Park Shopping Center Courtyard, with free parking in the lot. Obama Presidential Center guests receive a 10% discount when you show your ticket stub from the same day.

The Mahari team is absolutely honored and humbled to be recognized by Bon Appétit magazine as one of the "7 New Restaurants to Try in Chicago."

"...Chef Rahim Muhammad and company guide visitors through routes of the African diaspora via dozens of dishes that are vibrant and incredibly memorable, from West African jollof platters to Nigerian suya; the shores of the Caribbean via a widely-praised lamb burger topped with Haitian pikliz, and New Orleans-style etouffée, among much, much more.

A Hyde Park native, Muhummad co-owns the restaurant in the area's eponymous shopping center with his mother Shawn, who makes all the desserts including key lime pie, Monmon bread pudding made with housemade brioche and sweet cream sauce, and sorrel ginger sorbet with brown sugar and mint."

Come visit us at 1504 E. 55th Street - free parking in the Hyde Park Shopping Center lot.

Thanks, Chicago Tribune!

Mahari is honored to be recognized as a 2026 Chicago Tribune Critic's Choice winner:

"Rahim Muhammad, the chef and owner behind Mahari, is weaving together the diverse threads of the African diaspora into a culinary tapestry alongside his mother, Shawn Muhammad, and a kitchen staff hailing from West Africa, the Caribbean and the American South.

The menu spans from Nigerian suya and New Orleans-style etouffée to a lamb burger topped with Haitian pikliz. Craft cocktails and mocktails are from beverage director Lisa Brown, using ingredients with relevance to Africa and the Caribbean, like a Birds of Paradise cocktail that infuses ginger and hibiscus with East African honey w**e.

'Our hub is here in Hyde Park, because we get to touch every demographic of people you can think of, and the variety of people that comes through the door is exciting to me,' Muhammad said."

Visit Mahari at 1504 E. 55th Street, with free parking in the Hyde Park Shopping Center lot.

Open Mon / Weds / Sat / Sun - 11 am - 9:30 pm / Fri - 11 am - 11 pm / Closed Tues
