An elite crew of settlers from the IBW AWAY team met in faraday cage- lined bunker just south Bou Sada last night to assemble a prototype of Brion Gysin's confounding and beautiful kinetic sculpture THE DREAM MACHINE. Pioneers on the frontlines of the mind, the only as-of-yet non-terraformed space remaining, these intrepid and aging screw ups managed to achieve the mission's directive with only a few, small diversions along the way.
DID YOU KNOW... that way back in that holy year of 2020 that I started sending out what became a series of like, I don't know exactly, maybe 10 of what I called RAINY DAY PROJECTS? Might have been more than that even.
These were fun little things you could do at home with your invisible and stochastically distanced friends while enjoying your day drinking and government imposed summer vacation (I know, I know, it wasn't great for everybody - it wasn't even good for many - , but, goddammit, I loved it).
Projects included reading Grant Morrison's "The Invisibles", meditating, making and using an ouija and many, many other wonderful little projects to keep the cabin fever at bay. One of those Rainy Day Projects, #7 to be exact, was "MAKE A DREAM MACHINE". It includes a lovely little expose on this wonderful predecessor to sound and light machines as well as a link to Brion Gysin's original plans. So you too can make a dream machine, fearless one! And you don't even have to go to the desert in Algiers to do it.
For you FreakBookers here's the link to #1, just go forward in time to see all of them: https://www.ibw-chicago.com/6-6-6/2020/3/25/rainy-day-project-1-the-invisibles
And here's a link directly to the Dream Machine addition, if you just want to go right to that.
