Low Dive Brewing consists of four college friends who’s quest for the finest beer the world has to offer has ultimately lead us all to Chicago. While in college together, we actively sought out variety and bold flavors in the beers we drank, appalled by the mass consumption of pale, flavorless “beer” taking place all around us. Upon arrival in Chicago, our crew’s shared passion quickly took a turn
from seeking out great beers, to brewing them. The Low Dive brand hearkens back to early industrial America where “low dives”, “kitchen barrooms”, and “blind tigers” referred to underground, and often unlicensed saloons with no notable signage to speak of: the type of place where patrons knew to go to escape the grind of daily life...and often the reach of local law enforcement. We first came across the reference in an early historical account of industrial growth in Muncie, Indiana (home of Ball State University, where we first met) and an instant connection was made. Low Dive Brewing embodies a blue collar, artisanal approach to brewing. A far cry from the drone-like automation and one-size-fits-all approach that is macro brewing’s status quo.
