My boss - A'isha just mused and i thought it fantastic enough to share .............
Read on..
Yesterday I reacted rather angrily- to a silly comment. It was not that I was out seeking stimuli that would activate high-quality brainstorms...
No, not at all.
I was merely reacting.
Reacting in the rarefied field of Internet connectivity.
A WhatsApp group of grown men and women.
It all started with the leader of the group - posting a somewhat provocative media clip of a popular young actress's rendition of coy sexuality... a crude attempt at baring a bit of cleavage ...while receiving a national award for an accomplishment of some social cause.
But this one man's objectification of a young woman's insecurities with her self image - and another man applauding the blatant sexism with total insensitivity to the women in the group...got to me.
That this was a group of high school classmates and friends from India, reconnected after 3 + decades in a changed world is the underlying commentary.
I gave the good men a good scolding.
One of the "errant" friends apologized immediately.
Suffice to say the others noticed and kept silent for the most part...with the exception of the clunky baits of one wee tyke who may be still waiting to be primed to develop more fully.....
Men. Just men being men in a women's world ...We can live with it..i tell myself..especially by ignoring the tykes among them.
I smiled. And did not take the bait.
Whilst I was not surprised by my own reaction- both the anger and the angst--what really pinged my brian and got my spirit soaring was the immediate and solid support from all of my girlfriends. Women have emotions and bonds that run deep. Thank Goddess!
We live in very intense times bombarded with insensitivity, blatant arrogance and so much intolerance - where success is measured merely by $$ and how much one fits into the universal "macho machine " and it's machinations.
It is hard enough for men to live up to these projections and let me tell ya - it's twice as hard for women... who are expected not just to race on with brute force - but also with total indifference to their bruised femininity. Femininity, the very essence of a being that ultimately defines the nature of man and woman.
"Let us not take it for granted that life exists more fully in what is commonly thought big than in what is commonly thought small." Do not know who the real author is... but somewhere i see Virginia Wolfe..
I keep this counsel simmering constantly in the back of my mind. And it has always helped me change what needs to be changed slowly and surely, with, what i perceive is minimum disruption...
Minimum disruption both within myself and around the people I care deeply about!
I understand that the genius Nikolai Tesla felt energized, got inspired when he put his feet on the wet earth and his head under a blazing showering thundering cloud. Artist Vincent Van Gogh in the presence of a purring cat and stimulated by the aroma of fresh wormwood from a glass of absinthe...said, " I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process."
I like to hang out with people who are smarter than me.
What do you think - or better still what makes you tick?
