This Saturday, I'll be joining the Chicago Thrives Block Party with How Your Garden Grows—a hands-on gardening experience where participants will plant a tomato seedling, learn about seeds, soil, water, and plant growth, and take home a plant of their own.

Food begins long before the kitchen. It begins with a seed, a little curiosity, and the willingness to get your hands dirty.

Whether you're bringing children, grandchildren, students, family, or simply a curiosity about how food grows, we'd love to see you there.

During the pandemic, we worked side by side in spirit and love with C&W Market Foundation serving our community While the crisis may have faded from the headlines, the need has not.

For six years, C&W has been feeding families, creating opportunities, and helping develop the next generation of leaders. At a time when food apartheid continues to impact so many households, their work is more important than ever.

Sometimes things break before they ever make it to the table.

Plans change.
Life reminds us that none of us are fully in control.

Over the last few days, we’ve been reminded how often we experience cracks — in business, in routine, in expectations, and in life itself. And maybe the measure of who we are is not found in perfect moments, but in how we respond when things fall apart.

Hospitality is not just about serving food.
It’s about serving people.

Sometimes that means leading with grace instead of policy. Sometimes it means understanding that compassion matters more than what is technically owed. Just because something can be done, doesn’t always mean it should be.

Yesterday, many of us had the privilege of being with our mothers or simply existing in the comfort of knowing they are still here. At the same time, our hearts are with another family who learned how unexpected life can be.

This plate was meant for a Mother’s Day table.
Instead, it became a reminder:

"Hospitality is not just about serving food.
It’s about serving people."
