Today, I stopped by Fresh Farms International Market and was greeted by a sight that made me smile: only one bottle left of our Authentic Bacolod Chicken Inasal Marinade on the shelf.

Fresh Farms was our first retail partner outside the traditional Filipino market, which makes this moment even more special.

When I asked the buyer if they needed a restock, he placed another order before I could even finish my sentence—three times larger than his last order.

Another incredible weekend at Seafood City Chicago. We sold through several cases, met kababayans from all over the Philippines, and kept restocking the table to keep up with demand.

One of the best parts was hearing customers—especially fellow Ilonggos—recognize the authentic Bacolod flavor of our family’s 1985 Chicken Inasal recipe. Hearing “This tastes like home”, “Namit gid” never gets old.

As a Filipino American living in Chicago, today is a reminder of where my story began.

JM Manokan exists because of a family recipe that started in Bacolod City, Philippines, in 1985. What began in the City of Smiles eventually made its way across the world and found a home here in Chicago.

No matter how far we go, our roots stay with us.

Today, I celebrate my heritage, my family, and the generations of Filipinos whose resilience, culture, and traditions continue to inspire us.
