Rancho Llano Seco

Rancho Llano Seco Responsible and humanely raised pork & beef and heirloom beans from our 6th-generation family-run historic California Rancho, incorporated in 1861.

Rancho Llano Seco was incorporated in 1861 and has a rich history of balancing agriculture, livestock husbandry and conservation. The Rancho is one of the last Mexican land grant properties that remains intact. It is a reminder of a lost era when Californian, American, Mexican, and Spanish history intersected. Llano Seco means dry plain in Spanish, and comes from the dry land wheat fields that hav

e been an historical source of pride for the Rancho's farmers since its inception. Joining forces with conservation groups, Llano Seco Rancho works to restore native grasslands, wetlands, oak savannas and riparian forests in order to preserve and grow the diversity of animal and plant existence on the ranch. Our livestock represents an evolution in our relationship with the land that echoes the past and is a sustainable plan for the future. Our pigs are a cross of Duroc, Yorkshire, and Landrace breeds. Our hogs are fed GMO-free, vegetarian grains, 80% of which are grown on the Rancho. Pigs are raised in deep-bedded hoop barns with continual access to large open air pastures with
plenty of sunshine and a great view of the California Buttes. Our pigs are never fed antibiotics or growth hormones, and are never confined. Llano Seco Meats is the culmination of our mission to provide a variety of products while caring for the people, the animals and the land. Our organic cattle are pasture-raised on our untouched, gently rolling lands. As part of a unique partnership with US Fish & Wildlife and the agricultural and conservation easements secured with them, our rotational grazing system promotes native grassland restoration and eradicates the invasive w**d population. Cows spend their entire lives on pasture and are finished on a highly nutritious blend of locally grown organic grains developed specifically for our herds by an animal nutritionist, as we believe strongly in maintaining the highest health standards possible for our animals. Our beef has all the complexity of a grass-fed animal with the tenderness and marbling of a grain-fed animal. By promoting pasture health through our grazing, we continue to rejuvenate a nearly lost California landscape through sustainable and responsible animal husbandry practices.

Dear Valued Customer,

Llano Seco Meats has made the extremely tough decision to shut down operations. We have been affected by circumstances outside our control. Inflating costs, prolonged drought and the war in Ukraine has made the price of grain and other inputs increase beyond our ability to run a sustainable business.

For more than a decade we have been supported by an incredible community of customers, vendors and staff. We have learned and made friends and been saved from shutting down many times over the years.

Customers will be able to submit online orders until Tuesday, October 3. Our last market days will be Wednesday, September 20 and Saturday, October 14.

This was an ambitious dream we realized for many years! Please don’t hesitate to call us and connect with questions, concerns or thoughts.

Sincerely,

Charlie, and the Llano Seco Team
