Look at all the goodies we picked up from Rachel Taillon farm stand!! A bread board, sheep soap, skein of sheep wool, matching mother daughter shirts and a bag! If you all remember we had their Florida cracker sheep with us for a bit while they got settled in Ny so ofcourse we had to get some of their yarn. If you are in the Altamont, NY area please make sure to stop by their stand ! They are a truly amazing family!!

We visited friends in New York for the first time and had the most amazing time! So thankful our love of farm life brought us together when they lived in Florida. Now we have the best excuse for vacation in NY. Cannot wait to be back! The views were absolutely breathtaking and our friends treated us like family. 🥹🥰

We did some more digging this weekend and look what was found….

More pottery!!! We are stoked at this find and hoping to put all the pieces together one day and make a complete bowl! Thank you to our new friends for finding these pieces for us!! Now Jacob has a good little collection going.

So far we have had 5 ppl experienced in digging come out, on top of myself, husband and kids digging for about 10 hours total over the course of a few days and found what you see. Native campsites are usually pretty saturated with flint and it doesn’t appear like our property has them like that so maybe just some Natives coming through to hunt on our property and they stayed a few nights? Either way still super cool to think about.

It’s def hard work to hand dig or excavate and sift. But it kinda feels like you are looking for gold and it keeps you motivated haha. It is wild to think that it has been 1000 years plus since human hands touched these pieces! So grateful for the natives that came before us!

If you don’t want to dig up your property you can still find fossils or artifacts. All you have to do is go outside and look around. Especially after a good rain or if a tree has fallen down where the roots have been.

We plan to dig some more in the near future and will keep everyone posted on our finds!

Do you all remember that arrowhead Jacob found on our property?! Well today we hosted a “Pay dig” that’s where you pay to dig for artifacts. Scroll right to see what they found! How amazing is it to think about the natives of this land?!!

So what did they find today?! They found pottery!!!

We are thinking about giving others the opportunity to come dig too so if this peaks your interest send us a message.

Or even if you have little boys or cows that just need to play in some dirt! They will be entertained for HOURS 🤣

We’ve been dreaming of gardens, fruit trees, and walking barefoot in the grass again. We’ve missed having grass so much.

We’ve been free-ranging chickens here in Chiefland for the past five years — even longer if you count our time in Venice. But we’re ready for a change.

That means downsizing our flock from 200+ birds to around 50. That will still provide plenty of eggs and meat for our family.

To be completely honest, making a true full-time income from selling eggs and chickens usually takes a much larger scale — often 1,000+ birds. Maybe one day we’ll grow to that point, but for now we’ll be balancing farming with off-farm full time jobs while we build this next chapter. 🐓🐄🐢🐑👶🏻👧🏻👦🏻
