🐝🍯 After one busy summer, the honey is finally ready! 🍯🐝

We’ve been busy keeping up with the bees, extracting, and getting everything ready — and we’re excited to say honey is now available!

We have three options available:

🍯 Regular bottled honey – Pure, delicious local honey straight from our hives.

🐝 4” x 4” Cut Comb Honey – Enjoy the honey exactly as the bees stored it, sealed in fresh, edible beeswax comb.

🍯🐝 Comb Honey in a Jar – A jar of our delicious honey with pieces of natural honeycomb right inside!

Whether you’re stocking up for yourself, looking for a gift, or just want some good local honey, we’ve got you covered!

Just because a frame isn’t capped doesn’t mean it’s not ready for harvest. At Winkel Hive Honey Co., we don’t just rely on capped frames—we verify every harvest with a refractometer. It’s one extra step that helps ensure you’re getting the best honey possible, just as the bees intended.

A refractometer measures the moisture content of honey. While capped honey is usually ready to harvest, bees don’t always follow the rulebook. Testing moisture helps ensure the honey is dried enough before it ever goes into a jar. Quality starts in the hive, but it finishes with careful attention to every detail.

A day in the bee yard. 🐝🍯

Keeping healthy, productive hives takes time, care, and a little smoke to keep everyone calm while we work. Every hive inspection helps ensure our bees stay strong and continue producing the local honey you love.

After the strong winds on Sunday, I decided to check on the hives and swarm traps to make sure everything held up. Luckily, the hives stayed put and weren’t tipped over. One swarm trap was thrown 20 feet from the tree it was placed in and to my surprise, one of the swarm traps had a colony move in within the last few days. They were barely hanging on—literally by a limb, but I was able to successfully recover them and get them placed in their new home.

Spring is in the air and so are our bees! The dandelion bloom has our bees growing in numbers quickly. Requiring splits to be made over the weekend with more to come in the next few weeks. Nectar is starting to come in slowly so honey supers were added to capitalize on some of the early 2026 honey flow.

I still have some honey from the 2025 season if anyone is still looking for some.

Let's talk about SWARMS!

What is a swarm? You might be wondering...

There is a true science behind a bee swarm and why they happen. Often times it's due to a colony growing too large for a current hive and it becomes crowded. The old queen of the hive will decide to leave to find a larger, more sufficient space. Along with her, you will find roughly half of the worker bees following along to create a NEW colony! 🏘️

When does this happen?

Now! Spring time is the start of when you will see swarms in places you haven't before. Swarms are mobile mostly during warm, sunny, and Spring days. When the temperatures ramp up, bee activity does as well. ☀️🌷

What should I do if I have a swarm?

Reach out to Winkel Hive Honey Co.! We are happy to assist with removing a swarm from easy access areas to ensure the livelihood of the bees. Please do not exterminate them, they should cause no harm unless they feel endangered! We are happy to assist with removing the bees and giving them a proper new home.🏡🍯

March blizzard means prep-work for the upcoming season. Today’s task, making feeder buckets.

Extra buckets are available for purchase. Great for seasoned beekeepers looking for a new feeding system or for anyone preparing for their first season.

Will have over 75 available for sale. Buckets are 1 gallon food grade buckets with removable predrilled tint plugs for right away use. The tint plugs are drilled with 5 1/16” holes. Looking to get $6 per bucket. Purchase 10 or more of them and I’ll lower it to $5.50 per bucket.
