I know emotions are running high right now, and my intention is not to minimize anyone's fear. Fires are incredibly stressful, and it's natural to have questions.
That said, if you're in or near the Dove Fire, please don't rely solely on Facebook comments to decide whether to evacuate or whether your home is safe. Social media can be helpful for community support, but official sources will always have the most accurate and timely information.
For your own safety and security, please avoid posting details like:
• Whether your home is currently vacant.
• That you're home alone or unable to evacuate.
• Your exact address or location.
• Whether your security cameras or alarm system are offline.
• Requests asking strangers to check if your house is still standing.
Unfortunately, not everyone online has good intentions, and it's best to protect your family and your property while emergency responders do their jobs.
If you need help evacuating because you're elderly, disabled, have no transportation, or have another emergency, don't post on Facebook and hope someone sees it. Contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office, your local emergency officials, or 911 if you're in immediate danger. They can coordinate assistance or direct you to the appropriate resources.
If you're trying to find out whether your home is in an evacuation zone or if it's safe to return, use official sources like Watch Duty, CAL FIRE, and Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services, They are updated much faster and more accurately than social media.
