ARCC Roses Homestead

ARCC Roses Homestead We are a small family-run Homestead, not a hobby farm.

We raise Katahdin/Dorper sheep, lowline cattle for meat, chickens for eggs and meat, and selective breed grade milking goats of the Nigerian Dwarf and mini breeds towards show standard quality.

Together my hubby and I came up with The best idea for trimming hooves on the cheap. A less than $100 electric hoist and a calf weight harness. Much cheaper than a grand for the turntable. For those of us with neck and spine injuries, fighting to hold a foot up is agony.
This girl, Blaze, is about 100lbs and preggers. She's the heaviest and our second tallest doe. Both of us had a much easier time with the pedicure. And I'll be able to weigh my girls with this too.

We still have some girls looking for new homes. Posted to Panama City FL Craigslist and various local farm pages.
First 2 (Autumn and Cassia) are full ND, other 2 are crosses.
Small white Peaches is 3/4 ND 1/4 cross of Nubian Kiko and alpine.
Larger red gold with white belt, Ari, is 1/2 ND and 1/2 nubian, Kiko and alpine. She is still in milk.
All 4 should be bred to full ND bucks.

Said Goodbye to Freyja and Fae today. Hope they enjoy their new family farm.

Todays goat topic is Goat Breed
I see a lot of people ask about breeds. I say Do Your Research. It all depends what your family needs and those needs may change as you build your homestead and herd.
I, personally, spent 2 years after my car accident and surgeries laying on a couch watching YouTube planning out our homestead future. Knowing I had spinal injuries I needed manageable livestock I could still lift or control with little to no help. I needed good milkers, a cow was out of the question. So we settled on the Nigerian Dwarf. All that was available in our area were "grade goats". Ones that fell under the breed name but were not up to standards nor had any form of pedigree. People just let them breed as babies or to whatever and had no form of stewardship in my area. I've seen some more conscientious breeders in the last few years locally, but not many.
I have since spent 9 years selectively breeding these little divas to get better traits. even gone up to full sized goats for capacity and teat size now back down to full Nigerian again. I honestly enjoy the Minis more. Better temperament, better milking traits, better parasite resistance. Hybrid vigor I guess.
So currently we are still breeding both; full Nigerian Dwarf and crosses of Kiko/Nubian/Alpine with Nigerian dwarf for minis. Their milk is still high butterfat and sweet.
