Something all of us likely know, but is something I’m finding most consumers do not understand is this. Imported boxed beef does not and never will pay property taxes - taxes that you and I pay to fund our public school systems, our law enforcement agencies, our fire departments, and local recreational opportunities. Imported boxed beef doesn’t donate to your child’s high school rodeo club, 4-H or FFA group, the high school football, baseball, volleyball or wrestling team. It’s never bought its tires from a local tire shop, or paid a mechanic to fix a broken down tractor, or paid to buy alfalfa, corn or fertilizer from your local farmer. Imported boxed beef doesn’t support the local insurance agent, or take out loans from community banks, it doesn’t buy its fuel from station owners in our communities either. And the list goes on...I think I’ve made my point. The point being, we need Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling to balance the trade of beef. It’s a start in the right direction.
