People ask me how/why Iām so close to my parents.
One of the many many many reasons⦠they just show up. Theyāre doers. I donāt ask. They just do.
I had a complete breakdown one day after work. The freezer was left open accidentally, melted ice cream all over the floors, the entire place was a mess. I had been sick for a week with a sinus infection and feeling like a pile of poo.
On my parentsā 37th wedding anniversary, they showed up. They came to the store at 8pm (their wind down time) and scrubbed my store. Dad finished 40 million little projects that I just needed help tying up. He and Kody moved the air conditioner behind the desk so I donāt actually melt in the store. Mom got on her hands and knees and scrubbed my floors. On their anniversary. Past their bedtime.
They didnāt have to do that. I didnāt ask. I told them to stop. But good parents⦠they never stop being parents. Even after age 18. Even after the kids are married. They just show up. Even when Iām messy, teary eyed, and exhausted. They show up.
I texted her that night and again thanked them and expressed how bad I felt that it was their anniversary. She replied that she would scrub toilets on Christmas Day if thatās what needed to be done. Gosh this woman. š„°šš
