Wisdom from the farm:

As soon as darkness settles in the coyotes start wandering down from the ridge and Cody starts his patrol. Saturday night the enemy was relentless and the master stood on the front porch, flashlight in hand, illuminating 6 green eyes scattered in front of the house with Cody somewhere in between ordering them to leave. But away from the house wasn’t good enough. He wanted them out of his sight.

They danced around one another down towards the ditch line and no matter how many times the master called and whistled, Cody kept pushing and barking and then the high pitched barks of in his face proximity turned into whines. In the still night the master could hear every leaf rustling and whine and snapping jaw while two sets of green eyes still stared into the dim light beam.

Nothing good was coming from this bold stance Cody had taken. The ongoing battle night after night is becoming more than he could handle on his own and he was so driven and determined and in a dangerous place that he couldn’t turn back to his master even if he did hear her calling. His life was in danger on his own.

So the master woke the farmer because the small things were blocked in so she took off in a cab tractor down the hill armed and ready to do whatever it took to bring Cody back to safety. The master will stop at nothing to return her own.

Left to himself Cody will never back down. He needed a forced time out. He went into the barn and immediately made himself a nest to lay in, relieved for a break. One he would have never taken because his instincts tell him to keep guarding us, the new calves, and the little bite sized other dog no matter the cost. But he’s going to rest because this is no longer his battle. It’s too much for just him.

What battle are you relentlessly going back to? Are you boldly standing against an enemy that has you so distracted that you can’t hear The Master calling you to him? Can you hear The Master calling you to Him, but your enemy has you so backed into a corner, alone, that you feel like you can’t turn and run to
Him?

Oh dear friend there is a time to stand and fight and there is a time to rest and share the battle.

Cody can be stopped because he can be tied up where he has no choice, but he isn’t happy about it as the enemy continues to make his presence known. This would not be his choice and destruction is in his near future possibly.

But God gives you a choice whether to come to Him and rest or not. To do it His way. What happens if you keep going back instead?

Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew11:28-29

Come to Him dear friends and rest your souls.

Wisdom from the farm:

Super Cody keeps a perimeter around the house and the fields surrounding it. He patrols all night warning predators and anything else that moves that this is his space and he isn’t backing down on letting them in.

The coyotes are getting out of control and end up very close to the house at times with Cody boldly standing in the midst of his enemies loudly proclaiming they aren’t welcome.

A few nights Cody’s hips were hurting pretty bad from all the running so he was tied up to protect him. He was not happy. But the nights were quiet.

So if Cody isn’t out patrolling and barking and challenging I’m no longer hearing the threat and Cody isn’t in any danger when he’s quiet. Maybe he should stay tied up all the time and be quiet. Nope.

The threat is still there. It’s just not being challenged. They are roaming the fields “seeking whom they may devour”, but without anything challenging their motives they are going about their work stealthily and might even snag a calf while they are at it.

See their focus shifts to the challenger. He becomes their target. They are looking for something to devour and it wasn’t necessarily him. But his bold proclamation that they have crossed boundaries makes them angry and shifts their plans. He is outnumbered and the taunting is relentless, but he isn’t going to jump into a brawl because he knows he wouldn’t win against the numbers, but he won’t back down and he won’t get out of their faces. He stands boldly.

He could come lay on the porch and let them cruise through the field, but he knows they are up to no good and he chooses to stand boldly.

But even when he is outnumbered what those evil little things don’t know is that his master knows his cry and is there everytime to back him up.

They thought they had him early this morning in the wee dark hours. When the master heard that cry there were green eyes everywhere around Cody’s yellow ones and a large unseen group lower in the field was cheering them on, preparing to celebrate the destruction of the one who boldly stands in their way, but they didn’t know he had called on the master. They didn’t know the master was there to save him. And when he knows his master is there he hits a new level of boldness and gets to work pushing them all away with even more authority and confidence and the enemy leaves.

Y’all the enemy is always around whether you stand bold or sit back quietly so “be of sober spirit, be on the alert because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

But what do I do?

First, remember your enemy is prowling “like a lion”. He isn’t a lion and he isn’t The Lion. He just wishes he was. Don’t be fooled. Be bold.

How can I be bold in the face of my enemies when defeat seems inevitable in my life.

Second, be like Cody! Call on The Master to save you!

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

You have a master that suffered and died for you on the cross and none of us deserve it. But He did it anyway. Give him your life, call out to the Master!

And when you have called on him to save you grab that new level of boldness and courage to chase that enemy away knowing your Master has your back.

There are many reasons to wear gloves when picking pumpkins, but the best are 1) black widow spiders love the underside of the big flat pumpkins and unsuspecting fingers are a prime target. 2) the smell of a rotten pumpkin is right up there with dog p**p and sticking your bare hand thru one is not a smell you want to carry with you in the field. 😳 🎃

Wisdom from the farm:

Birds

What kind of birds build nests in the rocks? Apparently lots do, but this Killdeer bird happened to choose our driveway for a perfect placement for her eggs.

This bird has weathered driving rain, winds, cars passing close, people, and dogs to sit on her Little Rock nest harboring 4 cute speckled eggs. She’s stuck right there in the driveway through it all. Or is she? Maybe she’s just stationed right where she’s supposed to be; perfectly equipped for her job by the One that created her.

She’s a tough bird. Her food is right there on the ground where she is and she will guard that nest at whatever cost. She is equipped with the instinct to deflect the attention from her nest onto herself to keep it safe. The work isn’t much up front, but maintaining is demanding with all the predators she can openly see and must face that are trying to steal what she worked so hard for. Yet she does it fully.

But then there are the birds in the trees. They work so hard to weave a safe place for their babies. Their creator equipped them for their job too. They aren’t free from predators in the trees, but theirs sneak in like snakes to steal what they worked so hard for. Yet they keep going.

And the babies they are hoping to hatch out are equipped by their creator for where they are as well.

The babies in the rocks pop out so cute and ready to roll. The momma doesn’t feed them. They are fully ready to run and find their own food.

The babies in the nest are not developed fully. They require food from momma constantly and more continuous care until they are ready to fly.

But these mommas aren’t crying about being stuck in a tree or the rocks. They are doing what God created them to do. What God equipped them to do. They are stationed where he meant for them to be to no surprise of the Creator. And their babes aren’t stuck they are also stationed right where God knew they would be whether in the wide open or tucked discreetly away. He knew where he would station them.

So I don’t know where you are in this life. Stationed in the rocks deflecting seen predators from your family left and right or hidden away in a nest trying to protect your family from unseen predators that sneak in to steal, kill and destroy but you are not stuck. Your creator saw this before you ever got there. He went before you and equipped you and/or your kiddos for this exact station.

He provides for the birds and he will provide for you just keep looking to Him. There’s so much work to guard your nest and your eggs and seeking Him sometimes depending on the season, but you are fully prepared in Him to do this.

Ephesians 2:10
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
‭‭
1 Corinthians 12:4-7

“and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”
‭‭
Hebrews 13:20-21

“Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
