If fresh eggs are the goal, choosing the right breed from the start can make backyard chickens a whole lot more rewarding 🐔
🥚 Some breeds are known for laying well and staying dependable
🏡 I’d also think about temperament, climate, and space, not just egg numbers
📌 My tip: the “best” layer is usually the one that fits your setup best, not just the one with the biggest reputation

Today we said “see you soon” to our silkies. Due to personal reasons we have closed the chapter temporarily on all projects here at sunshine poultry. It was a hard decision to make, and hope sooner rather than later we can add the breed back maybe next year.
They went to someone who wants to continue my lines & show with his kids and that’s what it is all about — enjoying them, loving the breed, and letting kids learn and have so much fun.
Until we see silkies again here, we will only have our free range egg layers.

Woke up from storms destroying my coops and runs.

There was a time i said “we’ll never have silkies.” Anyway, here’s my like 100th silkie. 🤣
Blue mottled babe. All her mottling is on her back, she’s a cutie! Mottled is my fav because all of them are so different!
