Dyeing with madder. I couldn’t wait three years to use my own grown here on the farm so I bought some from a dye supplier. Probably beginner’s luck but my first batch turned out a deep, beautiful red. The exhausted dye yielded a lovely coral. My naturally dyed cloth collection is nearing a complete rainbow! Yarn is available now for purchase in our online shop (link in profile).

There’s a photographer coming tomorrow and I’m putting off cleaning up my studio. It’s been a long winter, the ground has been covered in snow since the first days of November except for a brief melt around Christmas (of course). This might be a good time to say that we are moving our flower beds this year, so I will be taking a break from dried flowers. I don’t have enough time to do it all and the struggles with pests and disease the past two years have been rough. We are still growing veggies and dye flowers and might even put in a few rows of u-pick. But the studio will be quiet this year. It’s almost poetic that the timing lined up for my flowers to have their portraits taken right as I put them to bed. It’s not forever, but for now I need a rest.
