Doesn't get much better than this. Introducing new families to sheep.

Levi and Colten came down last Friday for CIDR day on the ewes. Amanda is just in love with Levi, and I'm not sure if Abby likes Colten or the Cheeze Its in his pocket more.

Put out a new protein tub for the ewes tonight. I like to give them one this time of year when the grass quality starts going down, plus it's almost breeding time so a little extra nutrition is a good thing.

I find with feeding these and a good quality hay, I can cut way back on grain after they're done breeding up until they come in the barn to get ready for lambing.

Protein tubs are one of those things that people either love or hate. For us with a small flock and the reasonable cost of these tubs they pencil out pretty good.

Playing freezer Tetris this morning to clear out space for 1/2 of a hog. I'm sure between these shelves and what is going in Mom's freezer for her I will have plenty of room.

But......

I still haven't butchered lambs yet lol. At least right now they're still on the hoof so I don't need to scramble for space yet.

Many thanks to Nate and Megan from Lee-Ter Farm for bartering the pig meat for a freezer lamb. I love the barter system.

It seemed the world stopped turning that day as we watched in horror and disbelief. I was at work picking potatoes when it happened, none of us knew about it until we went back for lunch and heard it on the radio. We all shut down for the day and went home. Dad and I went home and watched the TV, I can't even put into words what we were feeling at that point.

The day we forget about this, is the day that we have failed.
