After months of collaboration and analysis, The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority and UCI have announced a new partnership aimed at leveraging the collective strengths and expertise of both organizations to drive transformative growth in Uptown, one of Cincinnati’s most dynamic and promising districts. Federal New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs) are fueling growth in Uptown Cincinnati, helping to create jobs, provide access to healthy and affordable food, build community facilities and expand healthcare centers. These efforts are driving renewed interest and development across the five Uptown neighborhoods, benefiting both local residents and the broader community. In November, UCI highlighted six healthcare projects that have leveraged NMTCs to deliver critical care to Uptown and Greater Cincinnati. Click the link below to learn more.

UCI and partners have been pivotal in advancing digital inclusion in Avondale. Last month, UCI teamed up with the Avondale Branch Library to address key neighborhood needs. Together, UCI and the library identified resources and expertise to support residents through workshops, headshots and digital tools. Special thanks to Tiffani Carter from the Avondale Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library, Lily Edinam Botsyoe, and Abigail Mesrenyame Dogbe from the University of Cincinnati, and to Inside Avondale for promoting the opportunity to residents. UCI has invested $20M in New Markets Tax Credits to Cincinnati Children's to help finance the construction of the Winslow Research Pavilion. This 45,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will include the health system’s Vaccine Research Center and the Discover Together Biobank. Learn more about the deep impact this project will have on advancing pediatric vaccine research, enhancing medical collaboration, and strengthening community health outreach, as well as the project’s timeline, at the link below.

Exciting news! Uptown Consortium, Inc. has partnered with the Avondale Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library to host two Digital Skills Workshops. The first workshop took place on October 23, focusing on library workforce digital resources, including LinkedIn. Avondale residents gained valuable insights and skills, along with free headshots for professional development.

Looking ahead, the next workshop is tomorrow, October 30, from 6-7:30 PM, where residents will explore how to use Google Drive. Dinner will be provided, along with one-on-one support during and after the workshop. Laptops will be available for use, and free headshots will again be offered by David Slaughter.

Grand prizes include a Lenovo Laptop with warranty, Microsoft Office Suite, and virus protection, along with professional padfolios. Additional giveaways include tech kits, magnifiers, lens cleaning kits and USBs.

ICYMI: One of our anchor institutions, Cincinnati Children's, is making moves in Uptown, purchasing the Digital Futures II office building on the corner of MLK and Reading. Children's plans include using the upper floors for non-laboratory research and will lease out space on the lower floors. This further establishes Uptown as a place where innovation and job creation thrive and co-exist with the broader community. Click the link below to learn more from our September newsletter story.

Exciting things are happening at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden this fall! UCI invested New Markets Tax Credits into the solar array built over the Vine St. Parking Lot. Now, a second solar array over the Euclid Ave. Parking Lot is up and running. These solar arrays are helping the zoo reach its environmental goals while providing shade for visitors’ parked vehicles. The good news keeps coming with the Zoo’s largest exhibit, Elephant Trek, now open to the public! Learn more about these exciting developments in our September newsletter story at the link below.

The solar array is forecasted to save the Zoo $300,000 annually and cut 1,284 tons of CO2 emissions.
