We are sorry to say that after a good long run we have made the hard decision to stop selling eggs. With a busy young family, full time jobs, and rising feed prices it just doesn’t make sense for us to sell eggs any longer. We have always been so grateful to everyone who took the time to make it to our little self serve box and buy pricey pasture raised eggs. Moving forward we will keep raising chickens and growing food for our family and maybe someday when we have more time and energy we can share the bounty with you again. Until then get some chickens for your backyard! It’s easier than you think and very rewarding! Cluck cluck and thank you again and again for your support.

It’s the time of year when the garden feels like it never stops giving and demanding. Lots to do and so much to eat! Did you know potatoes have to be cured for long term storage? Our little haul of small potatoes will sit for 2 weeks in the basement while the skins toughen up. Then if I’m lucky I’ll be about to keep them around for many months.

We are always finding new bugs that we haven’t seen on the farm. 5 years ago we replaced lots of our grass lawn with tons of native plants and trees and the bugs diversity has been coming back ever since. We planted swamp milkweed and common milkweed which each have their own special host relationship with beetles. The milkweed leaf beetle is BFF with swamp milkweed plants and the large milkweed bug is BFF with common milkweed. Both of these beetles are bright red/orange and black which in nature is like a huge stop sign to predators. The colors signal that the bugs are toxic which comes from the milkweed plant they feed on. Milkweed is full of poisons that fend off hungry herbivores and that same protection is passed on to the beetles that eat the milkweed! Aposematism is awesome! 🐝
