MISSION: Record a full draft system cleaning, all steps, start to finish

I’ll put this one on me. I needed some help creating content so I kindly asked the homies Taylor and Luis to help me out. My exact instructions….”RECORD EVERYTHING AND ILL FIGURE IT OUT”

I guess I should respect the thoroughness.

Fools 🤣

There is nothing worse than a fly in your b**r…

Unless your Pilsner tastes like mint and rosemary! And I’m not talking about all the adjuncts that Brewer’s like to add to b**r these days. No, I’m talking about the leftover essential oils and chemicals from pesticides used. Even though this bug spray claims to be safe for people and pets, it still leaves behind residue that smell and taste terrible when you’re trying to enjoy b**r.

The best way to eliminate fruit flies is to keep your bar, draft tower, and surrounding area, clean and dry. While we know how difficult this is, it is in fact, the best way to go about it. Male fruit flies turn towards alcohol when they are rejected by female. Female fruit flies lay their eggs in drains. If the flies can’t land to do their business, they can’t reproduce, they can’t lay eggs, you don’t have excess fruit flies! How do we stop them from landing? A big ass fan!

Cheers!

Welcome to the inside of a caked draft b**r line. 🍺

There are two different types of b**r tubing pictured here.

The first is a thick poly barrier line with a glass like inner barrier designed to protect the flavor and integrity of the b**r.

The second is clear vinyl jumper line, which connects the keg coupler to the rest of the draft system. Clear vinyl gives us a great visual into what is happening inside the system, but over time it can stain, pit, absorb flavors, and deteriorate.

And sometimes cleaning is no longer enough.

The Brewers Association recommends cleaning draft lines every 14 days, quarterly acid cleaning, and regularly disassembling and cleaning faucets and couplers. They also recommend keeping vinyl tubing less than two years old and barrier tubing less than ten years old. Tubing should remain free of sediment, cloudiness, and discoloration.

Typically, quality barrier line can be cleaned back to like new when it has been properly maintained.

This system was well beyond that point.

We cut sections of the old tubing open so you can see exactly what was hiding inside. The buildup and staining were significant enough that cleaning alone wasn’t the answer.

So we tore it out and replaced it.

That final photo is the finished system with new b**r lines and new jumper lines installed and ready to pour.

This is why preventative maintenance matters.

Clean it every two weeks. Inspect the entire system. Replace tubing when it is no longer serviceable. And clean the entire b**r path from keg to glass.

Because you may not be able to see the inside of your draft system, but your b**r touches it every single pour. 🍺

B**r 101: How to pour a pint

Easy, straightforward, proper. But, I bet there’s still a group of folks that would argue over this. Hopefully they’re having a b**r whilst doing so.

No sacrifice needed
No one handed pour with a hand wrapped around the rim
No faucet in the b**r
No glass bouncing off of stainless steel

Just a well poured b**r, in a b**r clean glass, on a crispy clean & cold draft system😎🍻

Some things get better with age.

Vinyl jumper lines are NOT one of those things.

Replacing jumper lines on a draft system consistently is one of the simplest ways to improve the overall quality of your draft b**r.

It’s amazing what a clean, or dirty, few feet of vinyl can do for a great b**r.

Cheers!

You wouldn’t drink out of a dirty straw, would ya?

Changing a vinyl draft jumper line on a consistent schedule is one of the easiest ways to keep fresh b**r pouring at its best.

It is a win-win-win!

🍻A b**r drinker gets the best pint possible
🍻A bar or restaurant owner can maximize profit
🍻A brewery’s b**r is well represented
