At Madison’s, we’re honored to celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks freedom and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

Our Assistant Manager, Peri, has curated a special collection of Juneteenth foods, each item chosen to help us honor the holiday and the sacrifices made by generations of civil rights leaders.

✨ Why these foods matter

Juneteenth commemorates June 19th, 1865, the day enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and months after the passage of the 13th Amendment. This moment, announced through General Order No. 3, affirmed “absolute equality of rights” and became a cornerstone of Black American history.

Food has always been a powerful part of Juneteenth traditions.

Red foods — like hibiscus tea, strawberry soda, cherry jam, red velvet cake, and barbecue symbolize sacrifice, transformation, and the bloodshed of Black ancestors on the path to freedom.

Prosperity foods — including greens, cornbread, pork, and black‑eyed peas honor hope, abundance, and the future.

Our new labels will be hitting the shelves soon—and they mean so much to me. Before owning the shop, I spent almost 30 years as a graphic designer, so getting to design for my own brand now is a dream.
