W**emaker Dinner: Maria João Pato of João Pato AKA Duckman!

When Maria Pato [pictured left], Luis Pato’s [pictured right] youngest daughter, returned to the family w**ery, she also wanted to experiment and find her own style — pushing the boundaries of low alcohol, minimal intervention w**e making. The result is “Duckman” an evocation of her namesake grandfather, João Pato, often portrayed as a giant paper mache duck on her labels. The w**es themselves are a reinterpretation of what w**emaking can be, ascribing to no tradition: pet nat sparklers arriving un-disgorged, red w**es made from white grapes, orange w**es made from red grapes, etc…. The goal is not to be a “natural” version of a classic expression, but rather to be endlessly experimental, surprising, and delicious. Chef Paul will be preparing courses to match a selection of Pato family w**es, with a welcome glass to start the evening!
