The Garrault family has been growing grapes in Sancerre for more than 10 generations, with w**emaker Isabelle Garrault carrying on this rich lineage from the village of Verdigny in France's Loire Valley, where she crafts her flagship Sauvignon Blanc from 50+-year-old vines. The phrase "Les Grands Monts"—which translates to "The Great Hills"—holds particular significance: it refers to one of Sancerre's most prestigious and dramatically steep hillside vineyard sites. Perched on high-altitude slopes composed of chalky limestone and clay-limestone, these hills capture optimal sun exposure while forcing the old vines to dig deep into the rock, resulting in a w**e of exceptional concentration, elegance, and mineral precision.

The Isabelle Garrault Les Grands Monts Sancerre ($43) opens with an inviting bouquet of lime zest, fresh lemongrass, wet stone, and white blossoms with a subtle touch of smoky herbs. The palate delivers vibrant citrus and ripe pear flavors backed by a racy mineral-driven acidity that lingers through a crisp, flinty finish.
