Funky Town at Low Spark | OTR Cocktail Bar 🍌

The perfect peanut butter banana balance.

Coconut purée, pineapple juice, a secret ingredient that takes the whole thing full milkshake, and then a little spice with Hellfire bitters. Poured over a crystal-clear BIG ICE cube.

It’s creamy, tropical, and tastes like something you’d order at a diner counter in 1978, right up until the spice arrives and reminds you it’s a cocktail.

Dessert energy with a little funk underneath.

The Sea Change at Pilar | Cincinnati Daiquiri and Rum Bar 🌊

Named for Hemingway’s short story about a couple on a trip, watching something between them quietly come apart. The drink is a lot more refreshing than that sounds.

The base is Novo Fogo cachaça — Brazilian, distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses like most Caribbean rums. That one difference gives it a grassy, almost floral edge you won’t get anywhere else. Mint and lemon juice go in next, then Hellfire bitters for a slow build of heat, aloe vera drink for a soft grape note, and soda water on top over crystal-clear BIG ICE.

Mojito fans, this is your order. It’s bright and herbal up front, then a warm kick shows up at the back of your throat and changes the whole thing.

he Governor at 🥃

Before Teddy Roosevelt was the 26th president (we said 27th in the video, that’s our bad), he was governor of New York — and he was such a reformer that the state party bosses pushed him into the vice presidency just to get him out of Albany. Then McKinley was assassinated, and the guy they tried to sideline ended up running the country.

The Governor is an homage to that chapter. Kyle at the Liberty Center location builds it with two ounces of Maker's Mark, a half ounce of Luxardo marasca syrup, and a couple dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters — stirred and poured over the custom Roosevelt Room BIG ICE cube with the R carved in.

Then the finish: flamed Luxardo cherries, torched right before they go in. Same syrup that's in the drink, now with a little char on it. Adds texture, adds smoke, ties the whole glass together.

Sunflower Old Fashioned at Japp's OTR | Cincinnati Cocktail Bar 🌻

Salty. Nutty. In an old fashioned.

That’s the twist at Japp’s: a house-made sunflower simple syrup that brings a savory, toasted edge you don’t see coming. Two ounces of Old Forester, two dashes of orange bitters, stirred and strained over a big crystal-clear rock, finished with an orange peel expressed for the aroma.

The sunflower does something bourbon and sugar alone can’t — it rounds the sweetness out with a little salt and a little nuttiness, so the whole drink lands somewhere between familiar and completely new.

Japp’s has always been known for a good cocktail. Come for that, stay to hit the dance floor.

Cherry Vanilla Old Fashioned at The Righteous Room | Cincinnati Cocktail Bar 🍒

The calendar says fall. The forecast says otherwise.

Righteous Room made a drink for exactly that disagreement. Their summer twist on the old fashioned: an ounce and a half of Maker’s 46 — more vanilla-forward than standard Maker’s — with Luxardo liqueur, cherry bitters, and a house vanilla-infused simple. Stirred over crystal-clear BIG ICE, drizzled with Luxardo cherry juice for the swirl, cherries on top.

Cherry and vanilla keep it bright, so it doesn’t drink like the heavy fall version everyone reaches for in November.

Speak softly. 🥃..and carry a big stick.

That’s Teddy Roosevelt’s line, and at The Roosevelt Room - Rookwood | Cocktail Bar it’s also two cocktails sitting side by side on the menu — the Speak Softly, and this one, The Big Stick. Read the menu top to bottom and the phrase reads itself.

The Big Stick is their smoked Manhattan: mezcal rinse inside the glass, a hickory chip torched and left to smoke underneath, then Old Forester bourbon, Carpano Antica, and wh***ey bitters, stirred and poured over a BIG ICE cube with the Roosevelt R carved in. The smoked chip stays in the glass and keeps working.

Some drinks are a three-minute single. This one’s a twenty-minute jam. 🌹

The Ramblin’ Rose at Rosedale OTR | Patio Bar : Old Forester, lime, black raspberry purée, over a rose carved out of crystal-clear BIG ICE, topped with Sprite.

It’s not a riff on any classic. It just goes where it wants: sweet blackberry, bright lime, a little fizz, bourbon hanging back in the mix. Popsicle energy in a rocks glass.

Up in Smoke at The Lackman | OTR B**r & Bourbon Bar

Rey Supremo Blanco tequila, Illegal Mezcal, Aperol, fresh grapefruit juice, and a touch of simple syrup — shaken, poured over BIG ICE, finished with an orchid.

The classic Paloma is grapefruit and tequila, bright and easy. This one keeps all of that and adds two things: mezcal for a low curl of smoke, and Aperol for bittersweet citrus underneath.

Same refreshing bones, more to think about.
