Festivals with severe food allergies can be SCARY. 😬
When we decided to camp at Bourbon & Beyond for Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, one of my biggest concerns was food. We won’t be able to simply leave the campground, find safe food and come back — and with multiple severe allergies, eating from festival vendors isn’t something I can automatically assume will be safe.
Then I learned that Bourbon & Beyond offers medically necessary food accommodations. ❤️
I contacted their accessibility team, and they added me to their pre-approved accommodations list, allowing me to prepare my own safe food at our campsite and bring that day’s food into the festival.
That means I can make my own sandwiches for lunch AND dinner, pack them safely, enter through the Access Lane and actually focus on enjoying the festival. 🥹🎶
THIS is what accessibility and food-allergy inclusion can look like.
I’ll be documenting the process this weekend — from making my food at camp ➡️ security ➡️ getting into the festival ➡️ actually eating safely inside — so other people with food allergies know what to expect.
