Scandinavian Society of Cincinnati The purpose of this society is to promote appreciation and understanding of Nordic heritage and culture in Cincinnati and the Tri-State.

The purpose of this society is to promote appreciation and understanding of Scandinavian heritage and culture. Our members are native born Scandinavians, persons of Scandinavian lineage, and persons interested in Scandinavia. We accomplish our purpose through several programs:

1. Holding regular dinners and other meetings to celebrate the traditional Scandinavian holidays and events.
2. Stimulati

ng interest in Scandinavian cooking through occasional ethnic cooking interest meetings.
3. Sponsoring Scandinavian entertainment at our meetings and elsewhere.
4. Staying informed about Scandinavia by drawing on our pool of Scandinavians.
5. Funneling information about Scandinavia to our members through our associate membership in the American-Scandinavian Foundation.
6. Donating funds for cultural and educational activities of interest through the Foundation.
7. Encouraging reading of Scandinavian literature through a monthly readers group.
8. Supporting writing of individual memoirs and family histories through a monthly writing group, calling themselves the Scandinavian Scribblers. For more information, please contact us at: [email protected]

Check this out! After 38 years, passenger trains are running again between northern Finland and Sweden. A pretty exciting connection for the region, and a fun piece of Scandinavian news to kick off the week. Read more about the new route and what it means for travel in the north from High North News.

It is once again possible to travel by train between Northern Finland and Northern Sweden. Although a change of train is required in the Swedish border town of Haparanda, the opening paves the way for better connectivity across the Cap of the North.

Summer is winding down, and weā€™re getting ready to welcome fall with another Fika gathering! ā˜•ļø Join the Scandinavian Society of Cincinnati on Saturday, September 5th at 10:30 AM at Hyde Perk in Hyde Park. Come linger over coffee, pastries, & good conversation as we ease into the cozy season ahead.

Fika is a cherished Scandinavian tradition, a time to pause, connect, and enjoy coffee or something sweet together. Thereā€™s no agenda, just relaxed conversation and community. Whether youā€™re a longtime member or new to the Society, weā€™d love to see you there. Bring a friend, stay awhile, and enjoy the morning with us.

Fika meets on the first Saturday of every month at 10:30 AM. Hereā€™s where weā€™re headed next:

October 3rd: Fort Thomas Coffee in Fort Thomas, KY
November 7th: Awakenings in Hyde Park

Fika will be on holiday break for December and January.
