There’s something BIG happening behind the scenes at Gorman Heritage Farm! And it comes with six little shells. 🐢

Through a conservation project led by our partners at Dino Buddies LLC , Gorman Heritage Farm is officially part of a growing effort to help protect Ohio’s Eastern Box Turtles!

The project is part of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ ROBOTS Initiative (Repatriating Ohio’s BOx TurtleS), a statewide conservation effort helping rehabilitate, study, monitor, and ultimately return native Eastern Box Turtles to the wild.

And the work has already begun.

Our new reptile friends are currently tucked away behind the scenes at our Soil & Stars Education Center, where they’re receiving specialized care from the DinoBuddies team as they prepare for what comes next.

But this story is about so much more than six turtles. It’s conservation. It’s education. It’s research. And we’re super excited to have a small part in something so big!

🌻 The sunflowers have sprouted, and the countdown to October is ON!

It’s easy to think of the Sunflower Festival as a few days of big, beautiful blooms. But long before anyone walks into the field with a camera and a set of clippers, there’s a whole lot happening out there.

Growing. Watching. Waiting. Problem-solving. A little worrying. A LOT of staring at plants!

That’s why we started The Bloom Bulletin: to bring you along for the whole story, not just the picture-perfect part at the end.

Part 2 is live! This time, we’re getting down in the dirt to see what’s happening as thousands of sunflower seedlings, some tiny and some... not so tiny anymore, make their way toward full bloom. 🌱🌻

Thanksgiving may still be a few months away, but if a farm-raised turkey is part of your holiday plans, now’s the time to claim yours!

Our Thanksgiving Turkey Presale is officially OPEN, and a deposit is all it takes to reserve your bird for the big day.

Our Kunekune cuties have a brand-new pool, and they wasted absolutely NO time putting it to good use!

A little splashing, a little soaking, a little mud, and, of course, both of them trying to fit in at the same time.

Heads up, farm friends!

Gorman Heritage Farm will be closing early today at 4 PM for a staff function. We’re sorry for any inconvenience!

We’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning at 9AM!

And don’t forget, tomorrow, Wednesday, we have our summer hours! ☀️🌿 We’ll be open all the way until 8 PM , so come enjoy a little extra time on the farm.

Happening this week: help tag and track monarch butterflies during their migration at Gorman Heritage Farm—hands-on fun for all ages!

Discover the incredible journey of monarch butterflies as they migrate thousands of miles to Mexico each fall. Learn about their life cycle, the challenges they face, and the vital role of conservation efforts in protecting this remarkable species. Participants will be provided with nets to safely catch and tag monarchs as part of a national community science tracking project. We’ll also search for monarch caterpillars and chrysalises on milkweed plants throughout the garden. This engaging experience is perfect for nature lovers of all ages!

Following the tagging, join us for refreshments as Steve Culver, an Evendale resident and Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist provides an interactive presentation titled “Butterflies - Beyond Beauty”. You will learn fascinating facts on how butterflies positively impact our lives and the world.

We'll be closed tomorrow (yes, the 24th!) as our team takes part in a Staff Training Day.

Taking time to learn, grow, and work together behind the scenes helps us create even better experiences for everyone who visits the farm. From educational programs and events to the Farm Shop and daily operations, we're always looking for ways to serve our community even better.

We'll be back and ready to welcome you Tuesday during our regular hours.
