No matter how tired or busy I am I want to make sure I am there for my girls heart body and soul. From making sure they get a healthy Breakfast to a hug and an encouraging word to praying for them and their growth and safety everyday. They are a big part of my purpose for working so hard but they have to stay my center or it becomes meaningless.

REMINDER: Validation stickers no longer needed for watercraft in Montana!

You know those colorful boat stickers you had to have on your boat and replace every three years? They are no longer needed thanks to legislation signed into law by Gov. Greg Gianforte on May 1, 2025.

The legislation was sponsored by Rep. Steve Kelly and was proposed by FWP. The main feature of the new law is the removal of the requirement for watercraft validation for motorized vessels. This validation was a free a sticker that boat owners had to get every three years from FWP.

The reason for the validation was a requirement by the U.S. Coast Guard that allowed FWP to secure federal boating safety funds. However, the Coast Guard requirements changed and Montana was no longer compliant.

Rather than ask Montana boat owners to get an annual validation, Gov. Gianforte, FWP and lawmakers decided to remove the requirement all together.

“This new law eliminates a confusing and unnecessary piece of bureaucracy for boat owners,” said FWP Director Christy Clark.

“Boat owners just need to license their vessel one time with the county they live in.”

Our oldest daughter, Chassie, has always loved cows—so a few years ago we got her a mini calf of her own. And now… we’re getting close to a big moment.

Saysay (that’s her name) is due to calve on April 20th!

We’ve officially moved her into her “calving suite”—a smaller pen with access to the barn so we can keep a close eye on her and make sure everything goes smoothly.

Saysay was AI’d to Bruce from Two Cow Tribe, which makes this even more fun—Kaylee from Two Cow Tribe actually grew up here in Circle, and we know her and her whole family. It’s a small world in the best way.

We’ve also had the blessing of a wonderful neighbor, Danae Switzer, who has been helping Chassie learn about AI and actually did the process for her. She has been amazing in getting Chassie started on this journey.

It really does take a village to raise kids, and I’m so thankful for a community willing to step in—answer questions, lend a hand, and help get our kids involved in the parts of ag they’re passionate about. That’s how you build a beautiful life.

Chassie has big plans for her mini cow herd and dreams of working with animals when she grows up. Honestly, she’d probably choose animals over people most days —and she fully plans to live in a barndominium someday surrounded by them.

Right now, we’re in the waiting stage… watching closely and praying for a healthy calf. (We wouldn’t complain one bit about a heifer to add to her herd )

Stay tuned—because we’re pretty sure an absolutely adorable little blessing is coming very soon

Spring is here… at least some days

That means things are starting to roll on the farm. The guys have been busy cleaning seed—wheat, chickpeas, yellow peas, and lentils—getting everything ready for planting, which we’re hoping to kick off next week.

This year, lentils are taking the lead in our rotation with 1,300 acres going in. We’ll also be planting 480 acres of yellow peas and 70 acres of chickpeas (don’t worry—that’s still more than enough for all our chickpea flour needs).

Before any of that could happen, there’s been a lot of prep behind the scenes. Drills and tractors have been gone through, hoses fixed, parts replaced—everything dialed in to handle what’s ahead. Once we start, there’s not much room for breakdowns when you’re seeding 8,000 acres in about two months.

Right now, it’s the calm before the storm. Not full speed yet—but we’re gearing up. Soon it’ll be long days… 8am to 8, 10, or even midnight, every day of the week, until it’s all in the ground.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Follow along with us this spring and see what this crazy, beautiful ride looks like on a Montana farm

After 18 years of farming, I’ve learned the most in the last five. Spring prep isn’t just planting—it’s strategy, data, and constant decision-making. Every year brings new lessons, and for me, the goal is simple: be better today than I was yesterday.

This spring marks 18 years of farming with my husband—and I can honestly say I’ve learned more in the last five years than in all the years before. A big part of that has come from building our food business. When you start sharing your products with people—through social media, blogs, or just...

Here’s a little throwback to our very first logo and packaging concepts. When we started, we were figuring it out in real time. Sketching ideas. Changing fonts. Second-guessing colors. Redesigning… again.

We had people tell us we should just hire a designer and be done with it. And maybe that would’ve been easier. But at the time, I didn’t fully know what 41 Grains was yet. I knew I wanted to make real health food. I knew I wanted 100% farm-to-table. I knew I wanted something that served my family and our community.

But I had never dreamed of building a food business. I didn’t know what that would require. I didn’t know if I’d be good at it. I didn’t know if anyone else would see the vision I had in my head.

The idea of 41 Grains came to me in 2019. We started building it in 2020. By January 2021, we launched our first products and in March went to the Made in Montana Show in Helena — and the response blew me away. The encouragement and support told me something important: people did see the vision. And they loved the products.

We’ve changed a lot since those first designs. We’ve refined. We’ve improved. We’ve learned. But our core values haven’t changed — real food, grown and made with intention, from our farm to your table.

I never want to forget where we started. The creativity. The stress. The late nights. The worry. The determination. All of it built what we have today.

I often say, “I want to be better today than I was yesterday.”
That requires reflection. Looking at what worked, what didn’t, and what could be stronger today.

Growth doesn’t mean abandoning your roots. It means honoring them while building something better.

And we’re just getting started.
