Dahl Ranch & 4 Heart Creamery

Dahl Ranch & 4 Heart Creamery I can't wait to connect with all of you and share how we raise our animals. We are following in their footsteps today by offering home deliveries again.

I'm Marlee, and I sell meat and milk locally because I get sick from the store-bought options, and I've found that my home-raised products keep me healthy and happy. Dahl Ranch was started in 1917 by my Great Grandparents who used to do home deliveries of their milk and cream. We have always had a passion for raising our animals to be as happy and healthy as possible because we believe that happy

animals produce the best tasting meat possible. We don't believe in feeding any antibiotics, hormones, or other nasty feed additives. Meat that you can trust to be nutritional, healthy, and safe for your family.

What are some of your favorite ways to use it or favorite recipes?

Garden season is in full swing around here! đŸŒ±

We put in some new raised beds where the grass was getting too hard to control. It’s still a work in progress, but these will be our berry beds for raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries. We still need to get chips put down, but we did fertilize the beds with potash from our wood stoves and raw milk.

Did you know raw milk can actually be great for soil? The natural sugars, proteins, enzymes, and beneficial bacteria can help feed soil microbes and improve overall soil health. Healthy soil grows healthier plants, and we love finding ways to use what we already have here on the farm. ❀

We welcomed Arnold's babies last weekend.

While she was farrowing and we were babysitting her we had another supervisor.

Lolo somehow knew Arnold was having her babies and showed up at the pig house door.
Then she worked her way into the building and just outside her pen and just hung out.

I love my livestock guardian dogs. Their instincts are incredible.❀

Memorial Day weekend calls for something good on the grill đŸ”„

One of my favorite ways to cook country style pork ribs is marinating them in peach preserves before grilling them low and slow.

They turn out sweet, smoky, sticky, and so tender.

I just shared the full recipe on the blog including:

If you have some of our pork in your freezer, this is a recipe you need to try this weekend.

I just shared the full recipe on the blog,

We welcomed this little guy last night!

He’s out of a really nice Normande bull and our Holstein, Faith. And yes
 he is pretty dang cute.

I’ll be honest though—I was really hoping for a heifer to add to the milking herd.

Before anyone jumps on me, don’t worry—we raise all our dairy bull calves and he’ll be cared for just like the rest.

So yeah
It’s a little disappointing when it turns out to be a bull. There's a lot that goes into a calf like this. Hours studying genetics, picking the right pairing, paying to get the semen shipped in (which somehow costs more than the semen itself), watching cycles, timing everything just right, and doing the AI breeding ourselves.

Then comes the waiting
hoping she doesn’t come back into heat, and then 9 months of hoping for a healthy heifer that fits the vision you had from the start.

So yeah
it’s a little disappointing when it turns out to be a bull.

But that’s part of raising and breeding cows...

At the end of the day, he’s healthy, he’s strong, and he’s already pretty hard not to love.

Doese any one need a Holstein/ Normande cross breeding bull in the future?đŸ€Ł

If you’ve been skimming the cream off your milk to make butter

don’t waste the rest.

That skimmed milk is perfect for making yogurt.

It’s:

High in protein
Filling
And honestly
 pretty easy to make

We’ve been using our Instant Pot, and once you do it once, it becomes part of your routine.

Plus—you also get whey, which you can use in smoothies, baking, or even cooking.

Nothing goes to waste.

I put together a simple step-by-step guide here:
Don’t waste the rest.

If you’re buying butter at the store
 you might not need to.

If you’ve got cream-top milk, you’ve already got what it takes to make your own.

It’s simple:
Let the cream rise
Skim it off
Mix it

That’s it.

You’ll end up with:
✔ Real butter
✔ Buttermilk you can cook with

We put together a step-by-step guide to show you exactly how to do it 👇

Once you try it, it’s hard to go back.

If you’re buying butter at the store
You might not need to.ilk (in a good way).
