π¨ LET ME START OUT BY SAYING I AM NOT OK STILL π Also this post will probably be ridiculously long.
My chicken bestie Kendra with The House of Fluffy Butts and I decided to attend the Love Of Feathers Bantam Club show in Marietta last minute. When I say last minute I mean we were on the phone with each other while we rushed our entry forms to the post office right before close on the day of the deadline. π¬
We then didn't hit the road until just before 2am and an over 4 hour drive later, arrived there right as it was time to start cooping in. I left my birds that had been to the previous show at home, and took girls that were way out of condition and straight out of breeding pens instead. π Oh and let's not forget that I literally FORGOT to grab two pullets. π We were EXHAUSTED to say the least. My son got to show for himself for the first time though and was so proud of himself!
Despite a few with unsurprising middle school behavior, I got to see and enjoy the company of some familiar faces and some awesome people that I hadn't yet had the chance to meet! β€οΈ The overall vibe of the show and all of the great people definitely made me add this one to my yearly trips list. So don't be leary about attending shows simply because of certain people. I promise those people will NEVER directly speak to you and they can not overshadow the wonderful people and experiences that these events offer.
Heather and Keegan Carrera did a wonderful job putting the show together. Watching Keegan with all of the juniors was so heart warming. He definitely has a gift with the young poultry enthusiast. He was clearly exhausted yet made it a point to constantly zoom around speaking to and complimenting everyone and making them feel comfortable and welcomed. β€οΈ
I brought an adorable recessive white pullet home with me from Heather at Bent arrow. π€ I am so proud that I limited myself to one because she brought so many. π
Now fast forward: Immediately after the show we packed up and made the over 4 hour trip back home. Running on approximately 4 hours of sleep in the last 72 hours. We had to make several stops to wake up and several more for coffees with extra shots. π I woke up this morning and it took me about 15 minutes to even stand up because my back just can not. π I have moaned and groaned so much today that my dog is following me around looking extremely concerned. π
β€οΈ Just some of the amazing breeders I had the pleasure of meeting again or for the first time (if I forget someone please show forgiveness. As you could tell I was beyond exhausted) π I think we should all be required to wear shirts with not only our page names, but also our real first names to these things. It would be so helpful for those that are old like me and have the memory of a gold fish π:
Bent Arrow
Keegan with Kaleidoscope Poultry
Fancy Hen House
Rebecca Bronaugh Priddy
Cassidy Pennartz
Chickensaurus Farms
Sugar Shack Silkies
Diamond S Silkies (I still say you sell me "Heavy" or we at least do an egg swap at some point. That boy was stunning!) ππ
Lucy Vega This woman was sooooo incredibly sweet. A breath of fresh air and I hope she never loses that as she joins us here in the silkie community. She calmed my anxiety a few times, without even realizing it I am sure, just by popping up at the right time with that smile and kind words. π₯°
I also met and sat with Ariel The Silkie Chick. She is soooo sweet and brought some BEAUTIFUL birds. I have never considered gray silkies a variety I wanted to add, but seeing her Naked Necks definitely had me considering a new pen. π (If I message you over the coming weeks, please tell me no).
Queens of the Coop was there for her first show with some BEAUTIFUL birds!
Campbell Farms had whites that I would probably trade a kidney for. π
I am sure there are many more that I am Missing yet enjoyed the company of. Forgive my exhausted mind today. Congratulations to ALL of the winners and I hope everyone had a wonderful time! β€οΈ
