Thats why we ended up with fall equinox keets. No spring chicks here. They all made it through the first day off the nest tho.

For today we decided to do our most patriotic rooster. Flynn.

A bantom chochin he is a part of Ginnys 4H project flock. We got him for $0.50 as a chick in the clearenc bins at a store 2 years ago. Infact around this time so it might be his birthday. Happy birthday Flynn.

Ronda is an honorary member of the farm. A stray that showed up in late april she has slowly become a regular and I won't lie, we're becoming very fond of her.

She had an injury tonher ear, so she was named after a boxer. We kniw she's a lover not a fighter but she's a tough little lady jon the less.

We have been able to get her a spot in a spaying strays program and she should be going in saturday morning. We're hoping everything goes well and we will have her back in the fields soon.

Today we will show off Salsa, Clasical and Rock

These are Helens breeding scullian buttercups. This year at county fair they won best trio. They look like they might be in the early stages of molting so I wanted to get a pic before they start looking ruff.

These three and previously mentiont Toast, and a young hen named Agatha are allnshe has for this 4H project flock at this time.

I love the way they look and here at Iron Thistle Farm we have a passion for heritage and herloom breeds and veriets. We will continue to have a small flock of Buttercups and will gladly help others get some if they are intrested

Toast and Crunch

These two are St. Pauls Lutheran School alumni. They hatched in a 6th grade classroom in 2023. We were very suprised to have 2 uncommon showable breeds/ variety of chickens.

Toast is a Sicillian Buttercup hen and started Helen on the road to being a part of a group of breeders protecting this small heritage breed.

Crunch is a rose comb Rhode Island Red, the less common variety of the RIR. He has been a marvelous bird. He has gone to fair for 3 years and been a well behaved showmanship rooster every year. This year he won best in show!

Helen's 4H project foundation birds are a very important part of our farm.

Found in the road infront of our house at 9:30pm when he was 5 weeks old.

Helen was determined to find a way to keep him. With the help of a sponcer who paid for his shots and his neutering surgery she's been aloud to add him to the barn. He's already hunting rats and never stops puring.

Today we will talk about Artemis, the black kitty in the picture.

Helen lost her 10 year old barn cat this winter and for her birthday we adopted Artemis, previously Bean. She has such a big personality and is till trying to convince us she should be an indor outdor cat. She tries to follow the doga in
after morning chores every day.

Shes about 5 months and will be getting spayed very soon. We have high hopes for her career, and she may even make it to next years orleans county fair.

Today we will do Elvis.

Unfortunately Elvis went missi g yesterday so this isnlikly a memorial.

Elvis came to us in 2022 with the small flo k we adopted. He was 2 at the time. He came with the name Little S**t. But he was never any think but a sweetheart tonus and our whole barn yard so we renamed LS to Elvis.

He is a brama easteregger mix and lended the green genetics to our eggs. He is the father or grandfather to most of our flock now and was retired from being our main breedi g roster last fall.

Always haning with his 3 old ladies he was an excent rooster who free ranged well. If he is truly gone he will be missed.

I'm going to start doing some animal profials, so you can all get to know our team. We will start with Shirley

Shirley is a Buff Orpington. She is a retired layer.

Shirley helped rebuild our flock after our tragic loss of all our birds 2022. When we adopted her we were told she was already aproching 6 years old!

Now at 10 years old she helps teach our young hens how to free rang and is one of the top 3 birds for our visitors to cuddle.
