FREE PLANTS. We’ve decided to cut back a bit on planting this season. Finished planting about two thousand onions this morning and have about three hundred left. They are an open pollinated short day sweet variety capable of producing 5 inch bulbs by Memorial Day as long as set out within a week. Message here to respond.

This little pot started today in a dead wild cherry tree that was destined for the firewood pile. It’s hard getting firewood when you keep seeing possibilities. Says something about reconciliation?

Some of the repurpose firewood objects that we intend to bring to the farmers market craft sale tomorrow morning. We have bottles, bowls, cannons ornaments and more. All handmade from poplar, oak, black walnut, wild cherry and heart juniper. All wood is from the farm or church property at 87 Southwood.
Also, several fragrances of homemade cold process soaps.

It’s been too hot for me to work outside much recently so I’ve been devoting some time to “converting” firewood. Believe it or not, the two pieces up front are kindred. A friend asked if I’d reproduce the left one for a particular purpose. Due to lack of government control the one on the right is the result. They both have juniper as the main material. The right one has a ring of walnut. As with all pieces, the materials are local or as in this case, homegrown.

If this is what “you” had in mind, it’s ready.

Should be more stuff at the market tomorrow but I’m not gonna be there. If you can, please support the other vendors.

HG is for “HomeGrown” and “HigherGround”

Our small farm has been family owned and operated since 1881. Most of the approximately 30 acres are still wooded. About 3 acres near the center is open to cultivation. All of our garden plots are thereby well shielded from exposure to practices used on conventionally farmed fields. We like to grow a large variety of fresh fruits and vegetables that we prefer to sell directly to local end users. Our typical produce list generally includes: Arugula, beets, broccoli, cabbages, carrots, eggplants, green beans, heirloom tomatoes, Irish potatoes, garlic, kohlrabi, lettuce & romaine, mustard, okra, peas(garden & field varieties), peppers(sweet & hot), summer & winter squash, sweet corn, sweet onions, watermelons and a variety of fresh cut flowers. Our fruits include: blueberries, various pears, plums, mulberries, persimmons and muscadine grapes. We have a small goat herd and keep chickens, ducks and turkeys for meat and eggs. We also keep a few hives of honey bees.
