My daughter was out looking for morels today. She came across a large patch of these, discinaceae, aka, The False morel mushroom. This is a deadly poisonous fungi, and should not be confused with the morel. The easiest way to identify this fungus is to cut the white stem, which will be very solid with only a slight hole in the center. Morels have extremely thin, stems mostly hollow. As always enjoy Nature, just got this, Nature, Bob.

Good evening everybody from Horse feathers Farm, this is Bob. I am filling my birdfeeders at least twice a day. Everybody from pileated woodpecker’s down to the time is a little Goldfinch are living off the theater. Where you? Have many small birds you also get birds of prey. I believe this is a Cooper’s hawk feasting on a Bluejay. He took from my feeder. I was forced to feed more than an hour late, to prevent him from flying off without his dinner. Finally have the driveway clear and the guy who did my driveway. also, open up a path to the barn. It’s made my feeding job much easier. As always, enjoy, Nature, Bob.

I am coming into a very busy time of year. On January 24, I will be at the Nature center talking about the winter hike and the local bird population. On February 7, I will be back at the Nature center, teaching the history of maple syrup from the time of the Indians to present. I will show you, the tools needed, and at noon we will actually start tapping Maple trees around the nature center. It will be hands-on, so dress warmly because you will be tapping trees. So please come around 11 AM to the Nature Center, February seven. One week later, we will actually be boiling maple syrup while others will be taking the Sweet Hart hike. We will have maple syrup to taste and maple fudge available for tasting. Come stand in the steam and smell the syrup. Enjoy Nature, Bob.
