Branstrator Farm

Branstrator Farm Branstrator Farm is a small family farm on the Clinton/Warren county line. These practices allow our produce to remain fresh and nutritious from farm to table.

Besides grains we grow Asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, tomatoes, gourds, squash, pumpkins and ornamental corn. At Branstrator Farm, our priority is producing high quality fruits and vegetables for our community while maintaining a healthy ecosystem. The farm is comprised of seven acres of strawberries, four acres asparagus, four of peach trees, twenty five of pumpkins

and winter squash, twenty of sweet corn, three of staked tomatoes, less than an acre of blackberries, raspberries and currants, sixty non GMO tofu soy, sixty corn, and forty soft red winter wheat. When necessary, we use integrated pest management and operate on a 4 year crop rotation using cover crops to reduce the need for insecticides and pesticide use. Branstrator Farm collaborates with several different agricultural organizations, such as Ohio State University to improve the crop quality and taste. Farm research has increased efficiency in production, furthered our progression to a sustainable operation, and allowed for continued distribution of fresh, local produce to our community. Branstrator Farm values its relationship with the surrounding community and believes in educating the public on local agriculture. We host two seasonal festivals throughout the year, the Fall Harvest Bash and the Great Pumpkin Patch in September and the Snappin’ Asparagus and Strawberry Jam in May. These events provide a safe and fun environment for community members and families, while raising awareness about local food. The festivals invite local non-profit organizations, such as the Local Land Conservancy (CCOL), Wilmington Performing Arts Studio, and Energize Clinton County to raise funds in order to strengthen their presence in our community. We also donate produce as often as possible to the Association of Second Harvest Food Banks. Future plans include collaborating with youth organizations to plan field trips to our farm. Our youth will be able to learn where food comes from, about agricultural practices, and develop healthy eating behaviors.

Brandt Family Farm sets a great example:

"We're trying to take the best of every practice that we see, and we're willing to point out the deficiencies in our own program,"

Their diversified operation involves a deep commitment to regenerative practices and continuous improvement, and also includes their seed company, Walnut Creek Seeds, LLC , as well as their partnership with Local Millers- Regenerative Grains, Stone Ground Flours along with other important relationships such as the —which gathered at the end of June.

Excellent reporting on the status of needed changes on Ohio agriculture.

Ohio has over 10 million acres of crop land. For decades much of it has been over-plowed, sprayed with fertilizers and stripped of its nutrients. Although recently, more farmers have seen the economic benefit of shifting their practices and being part of the climate change solution.
